Viacom does own CBS, but MGM is it's own publicly traded company. Oh, and another quick search to end all speculation.
"Twilight Zone is ™ & © CBS Inc. All Rights Reserved." It doesnt seem to have anything to do with MGM.

They would probably never replace all the lap bars with seatbelts, because that would be a huge hastle added to the loading procedure. Each passenger would have to get in, adjust the seatbelt, have problems clicking it together, then the CM would have to use a flashlight to check every single person. Not to mention, the problem that so many people would unfasten their seatbelt during the ride..

If they Did that, they would do somthing similar to Test Track, with the LED Grid on the Cab, and the lights would show who has their seatbelt on or off.

...the floating is one of the best things about the ride and gives you the sense of reality of an elevator freefalling. Seatbelts would diminish the sensation in my humble opinion.

Well technically if you wanted to simulate a real elevator freefall you wouldn't float out of your seat. The reason you do is because they pull the car FASTER than gravity. In a real elevator free fall you would feel lighter but not fly upwards. So To say they ruin the sense of a freefalling elevator would be wrong, they would however remove the FUN of falling.

Thats the whole fun of the ride..... Floating... I wouldnt even ride the ride if the " elevator" didnt fall faster then gravity?

I've ridden in both the lap belt seat and the ones with the bar...how scary is the bar? Last time, my husband had to pry me off the lap bar!!! Of course, every time I'm at WDW, I swear I'm not gong to do the ToT, but I always do!

The Tower used to have a single seat belt for each row...but that was a while ago. They have the lap bars because you feel more "trapped" with one...they would never do anything to end the effect of flying out of your seat. They spent a lot of money to make this an extremely fast elevator ride as opposed to a freefall ride so that you WOULD fly out of your seat.

Gravity isn't fast, it's a force, it's a weight. :hammer:

ToT shakes before it drops now?

What do you mean when you say it shakes before it drops, and it rolls forward before you drop a second time? Is this new? If so, how new? Also, is there anything new they added to the ride (drops, # of drops and such) since 1999) recently. Just wondering. Because I love that ride!:sohappy:

The Whole Cab Shakes when they drop you. Its a cool effect.
They didnt mean it rolls forward as it drops a second time, it rolls forward from the first loading shaft forward to the drop shaft like it did from day one.

"I think they take your picture TWICE...and then choose the best one...if you notice there is more than one point where it flashes... " <--------Someone said this earlier

I think that all the other flashes of light are supposed to be lightning. Remember the Story: Lightning struck the building on Halloween night 1939 sending 5 unsuspecting victims.......and so on and so on and so on.

Actually, they do take your picture twice, (if it works right) but at 2 different parts of the ride. Theres the one you buy of course, and the one taken when lightning flashes in the corridor scene which shows up on the giant eyeball later.

The first picture, the one that shows up on the eye, that hasnt worked in months, if not a year or more. It seems to have been replaced with 1 standard picture of a bunch of "terrified" people on the ride that is shown every time. I think it may be permanantly replaced with this picture, since it cant take them months to fix a camera.

yeah

yeah it hasnt flashed for the picture for the eye in that first scene for a long time. Someone earlier said that the TOT had a large seatbealt for all of the rows. I was there on opening day and it was a lap bar. only the seat in the dead center back has a seatbelt. I love being pushed down by motors with the combined torque of 275 corvette engines. Beats gravity anytime.

I think I would like to stay with the lap bars, they are fun. And one time I had the pictured canelled for my entire car full of people because I took my shirt off for the camera.
