New to cruising

Hello all!
My friend and I just decided to go on a cruise this November. It will be the first time on a Disney cruise for both of us. We are sailing out of Galveston for a 7-night cruise on the Wonder. We have a stateroom with a verandah, but I have no idea what deck or anything like that (she made the reservations). I have no clue how to go about planning what to bring, what to do, or even what to expect. Any tips or tricks you could share would be greatly appreciated!! Also, I live about 45 min away from Galveston, so luckily we don't have to worry about travel to the port. :)

I am so excited, but also kinda nervous. I have only ever been on one cruise, and it was a total disaster.

One Little Spark...
You are gonna have a blast!

What is your itinerary?

I'll reserve what limited tips I have (only done one myself, but already planning another one soon) until then.

Cheers!

If you're daring rent a scooter in Cozumel and drive around the island, we went near Bob Marley's place to some secluded beaches...talk about paradise! You have to see some of these ocean beaches to believe it.

A couple of specific questions that I just can't seem to find the answers to:

How many carry-ons can I take?
If I don't want to charge things to my room, can I just use a credit card or cash?
Is the dress code for the entire duration of the cruise or mainly dinner? And are jeans acceptable?
Thanks!

Disney Falcon is the person with the rock solid answers, but I'll try. I do not recall a limit (I didn't see anyone counting) to carryons but remember you will be toting these until the rooms are ready (around 1:30PM). So if you board before noon (our experience out of PC on the Fantasy), you have over an hour and a half to lug these anchors around with you. Not my recommendation. Check each and everything at the port you do not absolutely need to have at your side for this timespan.
I do not recall ever being able to pay for anything, despite several attempts to do so, with cash or a card. I had to use my Key to the Word (KTTW) card. I could settle my account at guest services earlier if I so chose by cash or CC, I kept track of our card usage to make sure it was in line with our spending. I challenged one charge that was not ours (arcade) and it was removed.
As for dress code, jeans are fine for cruise casual, not formal or semi-formal nights, and not Remy or Palo. Not too many jeans on Pirate Night either. Your experience may vary.

carry-on I think pretty much whatever you can carry...I know there is no limit on checked baggage because I just asked that question the other night.

I think you have to charge to your room. If you want to use cash you would put in on your room as credit.

Dress code is for dinner no jeans but men can now wear dress shorts and do not have to wear long pants.

You've already got good answers buy I'll chime in!
You can carry on as much as you can - carry on. :)
They will charge to your room no matter what. You can put cash or a credit card on your room though.
Dress code is just for dinner.

What she said. (pointing upwards) Everything must be charged to your room. You can however run right over to Guest Services and give them the cash if you so desire. So, after going to the bar and spending x amount of money, run over to GS and pay it off there.

Actually, the dress code does not exclude jeans. Jeans are fine for dinner.

However, for Palo the dresscode is no blue jeans.

Well I was told that men could not wear jeans to dinner had to be either dress slacks or docker type slacks. I know people wear jeans even though they are not suppose to and Disney has relax the dress to code but I was told still not jeans but men could wear dress shorts or again docker style shorts

The website did used to say no jeans, but it doesn't anymore. :)

For formal and semiformal nights, are we talking ballgowns, cocktail dresses, or are slacks and nice blouses alright?

I wouldn't overthink this too much. If you dress nice I think it will be ok. I don't mess with a tux on a cruise, but I do take a dark suit with a tie for the formal night. There are people with a tux and there are people with nice pants and a long sleeved shirt. A pretty wide spectrum of what people "think" is fine for formal night.

I like to dress nice for the formal night, and go get a family pic with Mickey that night when he is dressed in a tuxedo. :D

5thGen is exactly right. Some people (like me) wear a tux. Some people (like 5thGen) wear a jacket and tie. Others were dockers and a nice shirt. And there always people who ignore Formal Night completely and come to dinner in shorts and t-shirt.

Just keep in mind that DCL's dress code in the rotational restaurants is a suggestion for the evening. I've never seen people turned away, even in shorts. (Palo and Remy are a different story.) So as long as you feel like you look nice enough for dinner, you'll be fine.

I'll just add that if you HATE getting dressed up at all on vacation, but you don't want to feel out of place on Formal Night, you can go up to Cabanas/Topsider and still enjoy a sit-down dinner in informal clothing.
