Adam, do you think the little mermaid ride concept the MK was going to get is anywhere back in the picture or have they dropped this all together? Certainly it would be easy enough to replicate and use the same plans for the one at DCA? Hopefully they are looking at new projects on this type of scale, and not just some more celebration themes with park banners etc.

WOW...Big stuff this week, eh?

Hope the DtD changes rectifies a few things...:lookaroun:o
Things can only be recified one way, and anyone who knows me, knows what that is.

Firing Lansberry would make me feel slightly better though:o

I get the distinct impression that Iger is completely on board with Rasulo's vision for the parks, and that the only pink slip Rasulo will ever see will come from the hands of a different CEO.
The problem with Iger is that he is the prototypical CEO which, in most cass, would be wonderful to have, but Disney is very different and diverse company. When over a quarter of your entire revenue comes from one division, you should maybe be a little bit more involved with decisions. From the outside looking in, it appears that Iger puts his faith in the Parks and Resorts Team and as long as the numbers are good, everything is fine and rosy. Up till now, Rasulo has been able to live off of past success, a Disneyland 50th that fell into his lap, and a few marketing gimmicks. Now, the economy has brought about a dip in numbers, prompting this "shake up". Perhaps it's a sign that Bob is keeping a closer eye on Parks on Resorts.

How so? AC wise?:lookaroun
*fingers crossed* They should hold a press conference and have Lansberry apologize, and then, have MacPhee come out and announce that the Adventurers Club will reopen on September 25, 2009 with future plans for a new Pleasure Island to be announced that day as well.

Btw, I'm not a fan of the implied message that Disney Parks is gaining yet more power.:fork:

Just an FYI it was not Kevin Lansberry that was responsible for the closure of Pleasure Island. That was set in motion during the tenures of both Ed Baklor and Djuan Rivers. However, it was not their decision either. Kevin did what he could to help, but it was way beyond him.

Just to clarify, Lansberry was not responsible for the closure of Pleasure Island. That decision was made by upper management when the numbers started to stop off for the entertainment district. The decision was made without him--his job as VP was merely to communicate the closure to the public and facilitate the transition from closure to the reworking of the island. Thats all.

While Lansberry's contributions aren't really visible these days, he was one of the more valuable members of management (in my opinion) and I'm hoping that he'll be safe once the restructuring is complete. I've yet to hear where he currently stands but I'm confident that his talents could easily be used elsewhere in the resort, or at least in the company.

The WDI shake up makes me said, only because it decreases my chances for a job in the next few years, but I really wasn't banking on that anyway.

Like Adam, I've been hearing whispers of good things out of Orlando. At this point it's a wait and see thing.

You just might have to move to Glendale.

I get the impression that the WDI restructuring is about Glendale taking control of new attractions and refurbs at WDW. So could JM's new position make him the eyes/ears/hands for Glendale?

I don't know the inner workings like the insiders but if this is right then I think it's good news overall.

Yep...I too am waiting for out "political pundits" to arrive.;)

Steve, Marni, Lee, Tirian, 74? Where are you?

(I think we need a WDW version of Meet the Press)

Nice to see McPhee moving up—or laterally, in a way—but there aren't enough changes at top. Still too many people who don't know what they're doing mixed among those that do. As for Epcot, the benefit for someone like Dan is that he grew up with WDW and is emotionally tied to it; but he still needs to overcome the hurdle of "old blood" at the resort.

Disney park management is still a Good Ol' Boys club, and creative companies need fresh blood to keep things moving. The real changes still need to come from up top, not just in Florida or California. That's all I'm saying for now.

It seems to me it is. It's just Disneyland (50th), DCA v.2 and then WDW in that order. Just reading between the lines though.

Wasn't Dan Cockrell in Merchandise?

I remember another executive who was from Merchandise... a certain

PAUL PRESSLER!

This talk of "Disney Parks" philosophy has me worried that going to a Disney Park will be as commonplace as a trip to the corner Walgreens.

Dan's been lots of places. He's been being groomed for a long time. He's been the VP of MK Merch, GM of MK, GM of the All-Stars, as well as several other titles.

OK, so does anyone know anything about this Cockerell guy? From what I am gathering from the little bit I find on the web, he is not good for Epcot. Is this a situation where we should just sit back and wait before passing judgment?

Very few people on this forum or the internet in general really know anything about Dan Cockerell. We will have to wait and see, but I highly doubt it will be nearly as bad as some on here are predicting.

You are correct. But there's something about those words "MK" and "Merchandising" that send shivers down me spine.
