News New Theater to be built at the Magic Kingdom - now cancelled?

The Magic Kingdom having double the attendance of the other parks is not some immutable truth. The attendance disparity used to be much, much smaller.

It's ironic how readily forgotten this is. The real raw attendance (saw the numbers) during the 2000 thing between the 4 parks were really closer than people assume now. It was very much even in the overall sense across the 4...no 45% disparities.

This is one of the biggest unfolding problems we see that won't be really lamented until we're far down the road.

The thematic approach is what has allowed disney parks to maintain longterm reputation and grow in attendance and financial capacity.

They are really starting to abandon it to try and drive quarterlies and it will be a
Huge mistake as other competitors make inroads...such as has happened the last 8 years In Orlando.

You can't claim "nobody does it better..." and then embark on a path of actively trying to abandon the approach that made you better.

Epcot is ground zero for that.

speaking of those pesky neighbors...
it's starting to get louder and louder across the street, shall we say.

meanwhile, there's all sorts of interesting approach-swapping

I’ve heard that said before. Do you really believe it’s true? I have a hard time believing people are really that clueless....aw, who am I kidding? It’s probably true.

The focus is heavily off/skewed toward magic kingdom...

But the idea people don't know that there's a lot more to wdw than the castle is ridiclous.

Magic kingdom obsession is actually a relatively new thing.

you can't force people to go to three other parks half of regular day guests don't know exsist....Disney world IS THE magic kingdom to so many guests. you need to build it out.

Build it out?!?!? Adding more attractions to the MK will only make the crush WORSE in the world's most popular theme park. The solution is not more stuff in the MK, but more stuff in Epcot, AK & HS.

And this point isn't even debatable.

The solution to crunch on one park is to overbuild the others so they can't be ignored and the waters naturally find their equilibrium point...

This is crowd dispersion 101.

But they don't want to pay that bill...which is why Eisner/igers acceptance of stagnation was a huge mistake.

Well you do guys know it’s just a rumor and nothing official has come out from Disney, Until it’s officially announced, Main street Theater is still green lit.

Same people who build indoor theaters in California with no restrooms.

Well the temperature is always great along with the fact it never rains. Also hurricanes never pass through here. I can't think of anything...
You know what, I'm actually hoping there's no roof at all so the Florida sun can shine directly in my eyes the entire time. And if the seats are nothing but uncomfortable bleachers without a back that will also be a plus.

But you still have the burden of huge daily operational costs and as others have pointed out...magic kingdom is built out.

The Others are not and ignoring that is going to make more revenue a problem when they go to look for it.

It wasn't that long ago that people didn't think of the MK of "being" wdw...by the way.

The whole property and the variety of things to do over their competitors was the big draw/uniqueness.

The princess craze...and the party obsession...and the firework viewing...all ironically came about as the magic kingdom fanaticism has risen.

Disney itself has pushed for that brand. you do need to build the other three parks but you can't just say ok we're done with the MK period no more new stuff. (I actually think Tron is a bad idea because crowds) MK needs more fluff....basic high capacity attractions. things to suck people in. this theater would have done that. Tron will attack more new guests (that we already have no room for) than it adds in capacity.

more fluff....see my last post....not head liners basic low profile D stuff. your right it needs no new E tickets it needs more fluff. as an aside I am willing to bet the massive skew toward magic kingdom attendance wise all lies in it's MASSIVE kid friendly advantage over any other park in Orlando. a toddler simply can't do much of anything at AK or HS or epcot. in fact doing a rough count there's more rides a baby can go on in magic kingdom EXCLUDING fantasyland than there is at any of the other three parks...

Honestly the only thing that is certain with Disney is when dirt has been moved and steel has gone up. Main Street Theater is just an idea, a very public idea, until the first two things happen anything can be cancled. I trust the insiders here and if they say it's dead... It's dead. Also hard to argue with the eyes on the ground who saw the fence go up, and come down. I doubt Disney is going to make a big public release saying that they canceled a project, we will be lucky if we get a press release.

Personally I don't need any further proof that the project is dead. Now what this means for other projects or new unannounced projects I have no idea. Again I trust what the insiders who have a proven track record say. So if they say this is scrapped and they are moving forward with something else, then I tend to belive that. Only time will tell if it was for a new project or another budget cut.
