News New Theater to be built at the Magic Kingdom - now cancelled?

I took it as he was implying that the funds could be being shifted to a different project in an attempt to balance the load over the other three parks instead of propping up MK to absorb the higher load

Considering how much capex they have committed to...it's time to start looking for reductions...

But to your point...adding to magic kingdom now probably doesn't to make sense a whole hell of a lot. From an operations standpoint...that makes no strategic sense.

You actively push people towards the other three to extract maximum blood from each minimum wage employee you begrudgingly pay...I didn't understand the magic kingdom announcements last year...I'll take them...but the seed should still be thrown to DAK and EPCOT based on the current state. Which apparently we know far better than anyone in Burbank does.

It's very operationally-heavy, so perhaps the spreadsheet hawks had second thoughts. Oh well, at least they still find value in spending $400 million on a coaster with sightline issues! Capex and ops budgets are treated so differently, which I assume has to do with how it affects the balance sheet, but investors should really question them on it.

This was one of the few announcements I was 99% on board with, which is probably the real reason it's not happening.

I for one, find this news, if true, totally devastating. You have no idea how much I was looking forward to an indoor live entertainment venue in the Magic Kingdom. It seemed like a perfect fit. Other than in the HOT HUB, there really isn’t an ongoing live entertainment show in the MK.

Perhaps together, we all can express our dissatisfaction in this decision and write to the TWDC. Every time we have an issue we want to share with Disney, we head right to Guest Services and nearly every time, they tell us to email Guest Communication Services @ wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com. They tell us that it’s important to share your thoughts with them because with enough people standing behind whatever issue it might be, it could influence a change…and in this case, revive something great that was already started. This Park’s 50th isn’t that far away and that seems to be such an important milestone that any improvements in THIS Park shouldn’t be shuttered.

It truly is hard to believe that on site work was starting and it so abruptly stopped! It makes no sense and it makes taking a pill that much harder to swallow. I find this decision very unfortunate and I plan on expressing my disappointment to TWDC. I encourage you to do the same and to encourage as many as you can to do so as well.

At $25 mil, that would help take a dent way for new monorail trains...

Also offers greater than 2000 guests per hour capacity...

My guess is they monorail bids came in higher than expected or the sudden impetus with the door issues lit a fire to resolve that before capex was spent on something which had not had dirt turned yet.

Just a guess though.

Maybe it's the wine talking (it is 9:39), but I consider that to be a consideration of transportation to and from a given park, as opposed to operating capacity within one.
ETA: "Consider that to be a consideration"? Yeah, I'm totally blaming the wine!

I think you spend way more time fretting the monorail than they do.

It's not that "coveted". It's a really old transport system built for a different era with severe limitations and high costs both each day and on a big scale when the beams go.

I get the feeling this being canceled is the beginning of a lot more shifts and changes to come for MK. Now the rumor of the speedway being revamped into a Tron theme to coincide with the coaster is making the rounds.
The Speedway updates is not new, just often ignored.

I, for one, HATE the non-use of the possessive. It sounds stupid and incorrect to my ears. "Disney's Animal Kingdom" or "Disney Animal Kingdom"?

Stay away, then, from Boston Harbor, the Sydney Opera House, the Jersey Shore, 7-11 Slurpees, Glacier National Park, the Empire State Building, the United States Army, MacDonald fries, Ford trucks, Tourette syndrome, Toy Story Midway Mania, Kilimanjaro Safari, Liberty Square River Boat, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Prince Charming Regal Carousel, Swiss Family Treehouse, Tom Sawyer Island...

Three things:

1) Names involving a city or state make sense without a possessive form. No one would complain about "Orlando International Airport" either.

2) Some of the things you listed are just the name of the thing itself. "Glacier" isn't the name of a person. There's simply no reason to call it "Glacier's National Park."

3) Who on earth calls them "McDonald fries"????
