New Test Track ride vehicle debuts

Looks good to me. Has anyone been able to confirm if these are completely new vehicles or just a new paint job? Or even if its an old vehicle thats been taken apart and rehabilitated?

.....but they said that GM is looking to move their sponsorship to feature Chevrolet much more prominently, if not exclusively, as that is their strongest line. Cadillac tends to be branded for a more specific demographic and Chevy is much more wide-reaching.

She had also heard that they were working with the idea of featuring the Volt, and highlighting their alternative energy projects, especially since their renewable energy exhibit (right where you exit, I'm blanking on the name?) has gone largely ignored. I believe these pics show us that they are going to be doing the Volts!

This makes alot of sense, and mimics some of the other stuff I've read on the boards. I'm so excited as I LOVE TT and know it needs the attention!

Sounds plausible to me on all fronts. It would be nice to see the Volt and other projects highlighted in a more...engaging and noticeable way. I don't think I've ever seen anyone in the new technologies area since they removed the Inside Track attraction.

It's mostly due to inclement weather because of rain at 65 MPH and also because the wet track causes a "safety hazard" somehow... So I guess they dry it or it's just something they say....

On a side note: YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! This means no Cars!!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Happy Dance Time!

It actually is a safety issue. To reduce wear the tires do not have tread on them. (Similar to the NASCAR race cars) and with rain the tires can't grib the track and could cause the vehicle to come off its path. The track doesn't have to be completely dry for it to go but it can't be soaking wet.

Minor update

My uncle is in the World right now....they saw the cars this afternoon....he said it seems that they are the same vehicles with a wrap or new body overlay. I'm hoping, and assuming, that they will use the refurb to tweak the internal computer systems too! YAYY!!

I really hope Test Track gets a new story. Going through tests isn't exactly the most fun or educational option.

Mission: SPACE suffers from a similar problem. We're not actually going to Mars, we're just in a simulator. That's not just the ride system, that's the story. Wha...? There's nothing futuristic about that.

I think they look pretty nice. Anyone else excited that we may get new 1/64th scale collector cars? I know I am. I have all the others and Ive been hoping for some new models for a while now.

Fingers crossed.

I prefer the old look, but the new style is nice, too. Either way, the ride is still brilliant.

I disagree about the Test Track story. Testing is the fun part of the manufacturing process. Who doesn't fantasize about pushing a car to its limits? That's exciting! Furthermore, the ride is educational. We can think up all kinds of nice ideas about alternative fuel technologies and fancy electronics for our automobiles, but all these are mere dreams until these technologies prove themselves on the testing grounds. Test Track imparts good lessons about robust design in an entertaining fashion.

And Mission: Space is most certainly futuristic. The setting is a future in which space travel is increasingly common. Read what Eddie Sotto has to say on the subject if you don't want to take my word for it.

I don't want to appear like I'm picking on you, but these are two of my favorite rides in any theme park. I just want to put in a good word for them.

I think I like the old colors better, but I really like the chevy logo in the front! I guess this is what we are getting for the TT refurb, along with an interactive queue and hopefully some track refurb. The Anti-lock brake part has been broken for months now. Thanks for the pics.
Test Track is one ride where an interactive queue would actually detract from the experience. The ride already has one of the best queues in WDW. I hope an interactive queue is not part of the plan for any upcoming refurb.

Took Backstage Magic tour today. Saw the new cars out running, and they looked sharp.

Also, I'm about 75% sure I saw a body in one of the paint shops at Central Shops. We were walking by that room quickly, and I just glanced in. I saw a large metallic blue object. Looked similar to the new cars.

Also saw lots of new Dumbos for the new ride, and all of the Barnstormer cars getting their new paint jobs.

I just hope its a good extensive refurb, period. I agree about the queue being one of the best in WDW and I like the story of being crash test dummies. Everything that's being said is the same with PP, the interactive queue is inevitable and just a matter of when.

Pretty sure it's just one of the old cars with a new wrap. Think of it like the monorail with the Tron thing on it. I tried it myself today, and it acts exactly the same as the rest of the cars. The TV worked, and I'm pretty sure it isn't new. The narration worked all the way through. The breaks at the end are the same stop and go as the rest.

I kinda like the old "test" paint job of the old cars compared to this one, but it doesn't bother me TOO much, the Chevy logo is kinda tacky. I attempted to get pics of it, but it just went by too quickly, they came out terrible. From the inside, it looks exactly the same. Though it probably had new yellow seatbelt straps.

And if you look closely at the other vehicles (not in the pics), the test logos are fading off. Some of them look pretty bad.

They're probably casting new body shells using their newer integrated-pigment casting system. The color is part of the resin/fiberglass shell now, instead of being painted on.

It's very likely that they're making new shells to put on the old cars. Repainting them would actually take longer than just making new ones. They're making LOTS of new ride vehicle shells back in Central Shops right now.

I don't have any problem with the storyline either. Much better than getting some kind of Cars overlay that diminishes the educational feel. TT still has an "original Epcot" kind of vibe in my mind, even if it was a replacement for one of the opening day Epcot attractions. I'd love to see TT fully restored and refreshed before my next trip, with all of the effects working, screens without static, etc.

Has anyone got a good look at the interior of these cars? Could there be a video camera installed to test the "Enhanced Photopass" concept?

They are not new cars. The interior is definitely used. could see another blue with similar graphics in the maintainance bay across from the ride.

Yeah, in all the pictures I've seen of the "new" cars at Test Track, they are still using the same interiors and onboard equipment. The body shells also haven't changed. It seems they are jus wrapped in a new exterior, a la' the Tronorail.

Here's a picture of the new Radiator Springs Racers ride vehicles for Cars Land, as displayed inside the WDI Carousel of Projects pavilion at D23 Expo last month.

Aside from the Cars theme, you can see the bodywork/equipment differences these new Third Generation vehicles have from the 1997 Test Track vehicles imediately; the built-in stereo speakers behind each headrest, the integrated bodywork along the side sill of the vehicle, the revised grab bars and taller and solid bench seating, etc.

The interior of the blue car is exactly the same as the rest. The Radiator Springs car's interior looks different, and right off the bat I see the speakers in in a different location, and the head rests are different.

IMO that snide little smile on the front of the McQueen car looks really goofy.
