Absolutely to cover the cuts. I think there was another poster who mentioned that they basically have a whole list of project announcements that they hold until they are necessary, which makes complete sense. Why release information if you don't have to? The goal is to release information like this to shift the focus off of the negative online chatter.

Massive cuts to our operation? Hey......Look! Over there! Star Wars!

Yet it seems to work for many in fanboi circles. It's like distracting a toddler with candy.

Which is why I'm not going to let them off the hook about this BS.

Wow. Those really narrow the view of the theater...and consequently the fireworks show. Doesn't seem like the best idea for a seemingly popular show.

Frankly that's my concern as well. They do significantly narrow your view of the theater, which I thought is now supposed to be THE view after ripping out Mickey's sorcerer hat. But maybe the thought is that our eyes will be on the sky now, for fireworks?

You don't really notice them until you get there. I don't think they were really visible from the front end of Hollywood Blvd. so that view is intact.

I've seen the current fireworks show several times because I think it's that good (I love being covered in fallout during a show - it means you're really IN the action!). But, in order to fully experience that show, you need to be near the end of the buildings on Hollywood. Even then, the trees kind of obstructed your view, but it wasn't that bad. These new towers appear to push the prime viewing spots basically INTO the hub, rendering much of the street as "obstructed view". Plus, the new stage sucked up a lot of the standing real estate in the hub (not to mention the dessert parties). The combination of the stage and those towers just seems super odd to me considering the effort they've gone through at the MK to ensure obstruction-free views of the projection show and fireworks (well besides the hideous light poles).

Timetable for the debut? The new QSFB booths at Echo lake make me believe they are expecting big crowds in the next few weeks or so especially in that area. However if you look over at the wall being put up on Mickey Ave they still haven't even finished building the frame, also on ABC comm that wall doesn't look done either. I also noticed on the rooftop of the Hyperion where the fireworks launch pad is there is new equipment up there; looks like new lighting and also antennas. Which leads me to believe that they will have certain pyro and lighting set off from that rooftop during the projection show and the antennas are receiving signal from the projection booths.

Does anyone know if "Symphony in the Stars" will continue until the new "Galactic Spectacular" starts? Right now the last Symphony in the Stars is scheduled for May 28th. Hollywood Studios is scheduled to close at 8:30 every night in June (not counting extra magic hours once a week) with Fantasmic every night at 9:00, but no mention of any fireworks. 8:30 seems pretty early to close during Summer.
