New Sound Stage Lounge At DHS

Considering this space will likely be on the demolition list for Hollywood Studios 2.0 it makes sense to not add anything expensive or permanent. Courtesy comes before show so having the area open for the summer is more important than making it look pretty , saying that it really wouldn't have been too difficult to do more than hang a couple of pictures on the wall..

Yes, courtesy may come before show, but the only reason to sacrifice show in this case is to save money.

You know, this wouldn't have been half bad if they'd called it "The Air Conditioned Toy Story Midway Mania Fast Pass Return Time Waiting Area" instead of "Sound Stage Lounge".

It's lame and lame isn't always a bad thing when it's something that is understated. Calling it a "lounge" implies things, though. It's also telling that this pops up just as another largish indoor air conditioned place which actually had stuff to do (animation) closes.

I get that this park is in a transition but it's a safe assumption that we can look forward to half a decade or more* before that transition starts to look like something other than a mess. They really should be including Hollywood Studios as a free hopper option to a single park ticket purchase at any of the other three parks as a limited time promotion or something until this transition involves adding something included in regular park admission. It isn't worth full price for a guest anymore but might help cut out a little traffic in the middle of the day at Magic Kingdom.

*I say this assuming we are already at least a year or two in.

The only positive I take out of this would be the hilarity of the replies, both in this thread and in the tweets. This, though, is outright bad show.

I've never seen the Jack Sparrow attraction and heard bad reviews from it, but come on, it has to be better than this. You could've put Hiro and Baymax here or at least something adequate, but nooooope.

The thought here is nice, but the execution is really dreadful.

Disney used to call its Cast Members "hosts and hostesses", and old school executives like Richard Nunis still clung to that Walt-era belief. But whatever executive team approved this and allows their "guests" to use this space should be ashamed of themselves and realize they are not good hosts.

A mid-level DHS executive could have picked up the phone a week ago and had contractors bring in actual lounge furniture and some accent pieces, had designers work on the wall décor and lighting, had their entertainment team set up a Pianist or guitarist to perform soft music in the corner (jazzy Disney covers perhaps), and had their restaurant or banquets team set up a linen-draped table with fresh ice water and lemon slices. And staff it with a Guest Relations CM or two to chat with folks, answer questions, and point tourists in the right direction after they are done cooling off. That's how you set up a summertime Air Conditioning Lounge in an expensive theme park that only has five (5?!?) operating rides right now.

That they then decorate this dreary and cheap "lounge" with photos of Walt Disney means the executives who approved it are either truly clueless, or they are just being spiteful. I really hope it's that they are just clueless.

It's a perfect example of typical Disney executive corporate psycho-babble. They have so bastardized the English language that words don't have meaning any more. It's like calling the smiling information desk CM's in the $500 per night Deluxes a "Concierge", when they have absolutely no real-world concierge skills.

This abandoned attraction with benches dragged into it is now a "lounge". And some executive team probably approved this with an email chain that mentions "World-Class Guest Service" and they think that's actually what this "lounge" is. It's not.

Did you intentionally paraphrase Justice Scalia, or was that a happy accident?

I keep laughing at the thought of this being spitballed.
Bill: "We'll put up a sign out front... .. throw some benches in there... oh! oh! AND A GARBAGE CAN!"
Bob: "Excellent idea.. yea the garbage can will really take it over the top.."
Bill: "We'll call it....... Soundstage Lounge.. ::Gestures hands like a marquee::
Bob: "I want your top boys on this bill... chop chop"

I clicked it and see outside the building. I looked at his account and that was it. Am I just blind?
