News New security measures

While I think the show of security isn't merited due to the fact that it only dissuades terrorists from coming in the front door and terror can come from anywhere, I think I would prefer that my bag is x-rayed as opposed to having someone opening my bag and going through my tampons. Putting is on a belt and walking through seems less intrusive.

Everyone knows that tampons are top choice for hidden IEDs. But I like your idea.

No security measures are truly going to be "good enough" short of complete searches and pat downs. But they're not generally necessary, especially in a setting like a theme park (or an airport for that matter). The spectre of being caught randomly is often deterrent enough. So bag checks and metal detectors should stop all but the most determined without going overboard in terms of security or impact to admittance. Is it a nuisance? For sure. But what would be the reaction if something DID happen? "Why didn't Disney do MORE to prevent this?!" Well, this makes (most) people feel good and addresses that.

At WDW all week, I note no moms with kid or kids get selected. Guess they don't know terrorist love children?

I noticed this yesterday, no dads with kids were chosen either. I was selected to go through for the first time, not that I mind in general but when your the only one they ask to step aside and do it its pretty embarrassing, was to me anyway. They dont exactly sound pleasant about it either. The guy in front of me with the stroller wasn't chosen, nor was the couple with a stroller behind me. But I was and my friend wasn't, I guess because we didn't have kids or a stroller?? The only thing I can come up with was I had on jeans, nobody with shorts on did they ask. So I guess they don't think terrorists wear shorts either.

You look like a white American man, who could be concealed carrying... That's all there looking for, if you keep that in mind as you go thru the "checkpoint" you'll understand why it seems like no single moms, moms with strollers, kids, etc... seem to be selected.

The real question is have they beefed up security at Cast Member entrances? When I worked at Epcot I didn't even have to go through bag check to get to work and at Magic Kingdom even though they had a security Cast Member scan your ID before you got on the bus to the utilidor, they never even looked in ANY bags that were being carried. And a disgruntled cast member coming in the back door could do a lot of damage with security that lax.

well....so could an employee going to work anywhere...I assume you're not for bag checks at every office building, every shopping mall, every retail store, every grocery store, and everywhere else people may go to work or congregate?

any chances the metal detectors will go away completely

Not as long as we live in the world we live in. How many times have you heard of airport workers stealing, smuggling or worse while the flying public takes their shoes off to board a plane. You just can't block all the points or it would shut down all operations.

As I posted above it is theater and the show must go on
