News New security measures

Sure anywhere else it is a tragedy, but if it happen at a Disney park, it is tragic AND a public relations nightmare. While I don't like being searched at the airport (this is the real "look we're doing something" kind of prevention) or at Disney I can understand the need for Disney to take increasing measures.
I just hope they increase the amount of cast members and locations handling entry, so the time to get through the check is not increased too much.

Last year during the Stanley Cup finals in Tampa, some guy brought a gun into the stadium. It fell out of his pants in the Men's Room. Of course he was detained and removed. As of opening day of the NHL this year, every stadium has walk through metal detectors and all bags must still be checked. It has drastically increased the time required to get through the turnstyles. This isn't to protect anyone against a determined terrorist, but it could stop an unstable individual from opening fire in the crowd. It makes more sense than just bag checks if stopping a random gunman is the objective.

And Disney had the guy who left his gun on Dinosaur, plus the guy who got caught trying to get a gun into MK. I am sure Disney does not WANT to do this, but I think they are starting to see a need to take increasing measures.

I guess they are going to build to buildings to protect the valuable electronic equipment? Where are they going to put them in every park?

What about the employees? How do we know they are not smuggling stuff in for nefarious reasons and ways?

Please have everything ready for bag check, please remove your shoes, eye glasses, pens, money, magic bands, bras, panties, implants, eyes, insulin pumps. Please have two forms of ID for everyone including children, birth certificates, ssn cards, and a valid passport. Please be ready for a body cavity search, men to the left, women to the right, never mind the long rubber gloves and lube it will be painless thanks to it being pixie dust lube. We will then background check you in the instant FBI database that is useless and did nothing to prevent the attack in Cali.

Then what 2 hour waits to get through security? Or do we use a FP+?

Sorry, the BS alarm in what is left of my brain is going off right now.

Would Mickey do the pat down to make it magical or does the magic not begin until after your full cavity search?
Mickey doing a a pat down wouldn't be any difference than the pat down I got from TSA 5 years ago. What happen to me was the scanner went off due to the metal rod that was inserted due to a fractured hip.The basically means I'll be happy when I am past the security point.

Apart from the bright orange painted tip? It looks like a toy gun in the dark 50ft away is still a toy gun. If they ban toy guns, ban toy weapons in general.

It has a metal barrel. As people bring them in and out of the park, it becomes more difficult to distinguish between a toy gun or real gun (in pocket, bag, under coat, even in hand).

On our trip week of Thanksgiving I saw the K9 patrol outside the MK in dark grey military style fatigues and boots. The large German Shepard had a vest with large letters "Do Not Pet". That was the first I'd seen of this type of security outfits at WDW.

I've seen these guys a few times they are usually outside of the park perimeter and use the 'Disney Security K9' vehicles.

Can we back up for a second and think about the fact that the security in this situation worked. We're talking about all of these changes that need to go in place because... the existing system did exactly what it was supposed to do successfully?

But Disney LOOKED unsafe, hence the new improved security theater.

Then you are vindicated by default. Simply because some psychopaths in the world chose to attack the innocent in a new and abhorrent manner and as a result, everybody, not just Disney, had to adjust their security to match the new and evolving threat. Nothing more.

Defending Disney to the end. Nope, I am vindicated because everyone was saying that Disney's security was under control. Everyone was arguing with me on these boards that Disney security was just fine. They weren't saying that EVERYONE's security was fine....they were saying that compared to everyone...Disney was fine.
And with Disney itself admitting it has to upgrade its security......all the others who argued with me are now proven wrong.
