Also, I think people are going to take a show on the Travel Channel more seriously than a 30-second TV commercial. They probably shouldn't, but most poeple don't realize these shows are little more than 45-minute commericals themselves.

Except it's not just 30 second commercials, the "misleading" imagery also appears on the promotional videos Disney mails out to guests planning their vacations.

At least they didn't show Samantha and her friend standing on Tower of Terror, like Disney marketing has time and time again.

Fair enough. Disney marketing materials can be very misleading. You'll get no argument from me.

My point is that most people probably know to take marketing materials with a grain of salt whereas they may be more trusting of a Travel Channel show.

Some of the show was ridiculas like goofy riding with you on the roller coaster. At the same time itwas nice to see goofy's roller coaster and Magic carpets get some love ( 2 of my son's favorite rides)

No but I could have done without the memories that only a celebrity will get.

That's funny because I have no idea who most of those people are. The only one I've ever seen on tv before was the "flamboyant" guy that was on TSMM with his folks.

No offense, but I agree about Memphis. I drive through on my way to WDW, and it is a pit. Hate that part of the drive.

No offense taken. I hate this cesspool. I've been here for 16 years now, 16 years too long. I'm from SoCal so to go from living in CA with tons of things to do to moving to this toilet is a real downer. Heck, even living in PA was better than this.

I missed this airing and tried to do a search of when it would be replayed but came up with nothing. Anyone know when it will be on again?

Me too! I found this post an hour after the show aired! I ran to my DVR and could not find it coming on again. Darn!

Exactly, and its not like there was a big disclaimer at the beginning that said "the experiences shown are not actual and were only made possible by Disney for this show"

It isn't totally ridiculous, as characters sometimes do get on the rides.

I absolutely loved this video. Yeah, the special treatment they all got was irritating, and I only recognized three of the people they interviewed, but it was great getting to see them all having fun and enjoying themselves. Plus, most of the things that they mentioned are family favorites at my house. I mean come on, how many people do you know who mention the Magic Carpets as one of their favorites? I thought my family was the only one!

I enjoyed the show because it took me to the park in my mind, and away from this hell that they call Memphis.

No offense, but I agree about Memphis. I drive through on my way to WDW, and it is a pit. Hate that part of the drive.

Hey, hey...go easy on Memphis!
I spent the first 36 years of my life an hour from there, so I gotta have some love for my homeland.
(But seriously...Memphis today is a shadow of it's former self. When I was a kid it had all the cool malls, got the best concerts, and had great basketball. But, Nashvegas is the place to be now in TN.)

Actually, there's a big difference between an infomercial and the Travel Channel shows. Infomercials are paid programming and have to run a disclaimer stating such. The Travel Channel shows are presented as independently produced programs.

The worst example of this was "Disney on a Dime". Here was a show that positioned itself as giving expert tips on how to save money at Disney and then instructed people to stay on property, use the dining plan and photopass. I enjoyed the show for some of the footage, but it was clearly at cross purposes.

I'm glad I was not the only one to find that show contradictory :D ... your right however, it did have some beautiful footage.

I DVR-ed the special on Saturday; my wife and I watched it last night.

I must join the group asking, "What are you complaining about? What did you expect?"

Yes, it was an ad for Disney properties. A show entitled Disney Memories is not going to be an expose. We enjoyed it, quite a bit, especially the enthusiasm of Ms. Brown and the HGTV host.

Perhaps it is a matter of perspective. Living in Missouri, we don't get to see the parks once a year; my wife has never been. This special gave me a chance to reminisce about previous visits and gave us both something to look forward to when we go. My wife was especially excited to see the footage from the Killamanjaro Safari ride; AK is clearly going to be a highlight of our visit.

Ultimately, the content and the tone of the special should certainly have been clear to anyone within the first 10 minutes; nobody was forced to watch it.

We all know that the shows on Travel Channel are designed to promote vacation destinations. That part is clear. The problem with this show (and some others) is that it didn't seem genuine, but rather forced, and driven by marketing-speak rather than any legitimate feelings or memories.

That's not to say there is nothing to enjoy about these programs, like you said. But there are also other Disney travel shows (mostly from the early to mid 2000's) which relied on talking up how the great WDW was, and letting its offerings speak for themselves. This was not one of those programs, but was instead focused on "selling" manufactured memories
