A nice 50th birthday gift would be lots of WDW announcements in 2021 ... Thinking about certain things that may or may not happen later, it makes sense to keep quiet on things for now (and if they want to 'market' things, they can promote it in many ways and say 'here's a gift for Animal Kingdom' 'here's a gift for Hollywood Studios' see, 50 new things even if a few of them don't open for another four years ... lol. Epcot's 40th is in 2022. Animal Kingdom's 25th is 2023 and DHS's 35th is in 2024. And we all know at least something/s are brewing for both of those in the near future ... just sort of connecting the dots and doing a lot of assuming, so you know what that makes me ... lol)

No idea if Zootopia is the plan, I don't think anyone on here has really said it's a sure thing. Did Clickbait? I can't keep up with his 'rumors' ... but I imagine we get something in a few years for AK and probably DHS. I also wonder if they just aren't sure and haven't 'decided' yet? They seem to do a lot of back and forth on projects. I mean, Stitch STILL doesn't have a replacement ....

Zootopia seems to be coming consistently from the same non-insiders. I don't believe it be in this park. Even Bob Chapstick probably isn't that heinous...right..? heh.. heh... :(

My bet is 100% on something to do with the area around Dinoland... or maybe something in that rather bare spot by Nemo?

It did feel 'too soon' to hear about any new expansions at either AK and DHS. Pandora opened in 2017 and DHS had TSL in 2018 and SW:GE in 2019. We were told for months it would be MK/Epcot specific ... I think we all just hoped they'd drop a surprise or two in. They did (Target, for one, LOL), just not what we expected or hoped ... LOL.

I also thought the DLers were getting their hopes too high for anything Tomorrowland related. I was right. LOL. It's way too soon.

And the more I think about it, D23 2021 seems like it'd be the place (during WDW's 50th and three other parks have significant anniversaries the following years). It makes sense to drop the 'bombs' then.

But, after watching Brayden's (Mickey Views) video he made a solid point in that this is the new strategy, basically. Don't announce big things that won't come for years because of 'fear of folks waiting'. I agreed with him that it doesn't matter, they should have just gone big (and we all know they have stuff brewing) and by promising new stuff every year, that GIVES FOLKS REASONS TO VISIT EVERY YEAR. He stated it better. (I know he posts her sometimes, but I'm drawing a blank on his username or I'd tag him, lol)

It's not rocket science ;)

I get them wanting to hold things closer to the vest now, after Galaxy's Edge (and probably Pandora taking so long from announcement to opening) ... but they should better use this opportunity (which I'm beating a dead horse at this point)

It's got nothing to do with that. It's got to do with a press strategy that all the stuff from D23 gets lumped together in a lot of press and for big capital investments they want to space it out a bit from other announcements for maximum earned coverage.

Also, frankly, they learned a lesson from the Guardians announcement that "die-hard" fans are not the most receptive to outright IP integration when they started booing. It took everyone by surprise and was not the best optics, as this got captured in some of the press coverage.

You're always such a pleasant read. But unfortunately you'll be sad to know that Martin and I often have different bits of info from different sources, which sometimes intersect. It's really nice to be able to corroborate rumors that way.

Indeed. It would be kinda weird if everyone had the same sources, almost like Disney authorizing info to be leaked ... :cautious:

Sure. If you say so. Everyone thinks they know everything :hilarious:

It makes sense in a short term business strategy to focus on current investments opening within the next year or two. They aren't going to hype an addition to AK that won't open until 2024/2025. Just like they won't hype a DL Tomorrowland that won't be done for years and years. They did learn a lesson.

You should watch his video. He knows what he's talking about ;)
