The second space
The third version of the space pavilion was to have the fuge as the preshow.

There were many versions of space. SPACE, Journeys in Space, Mission:Space. Omnimovers, Omnimax, simulators, reusing Horizons building and part of the track, walk throughs...

What was built was the lite, corporate/Eisner driven version. That was going to be so great it was to be cloned worldwide.

Poor Michael and Tom.

Hopefully I explained it properly here http://www.martinsvids.net/?p=283

Realistically though, there was no chance of anything more extensive being built than what we got. The bill for Mission Space was astronomical for the version that they did build. Blue sky is all well and good and fun to talk about, but it just isn't going to happen in most cases. There is no chance of getting an attraction with a $150million plus pre-show.

The environment used in the second patent does look like it would fit right into a Snow White story. The description of the figures of the tree explains that the technology can be used to create a dark, stormy night and flashes of lightning. I could see that exact scene being an upgrade to Snow White's Scary Adventure black light storm scenes.

From the small bit I read, this is manipulating the image of an actual physical object with fine-tuned projections. From the video I've watched of RSR, aren't some of their mouths projections on a screen and some animatronic mouths? It's hard to tell from a youtube video, but from what I've seen and read, I don't think this technology was used there. (ETA, might go back and re-watch with this technology in mind.) This would be more like Magic, Memories and You type visual manipulations.

Technology like that could be incorporated into a wide variety of show scenes to make them more dynamic and upgrade from "time tested" lighting tricks. Lots of potential.

I have a feeling that the second one is related to RSR and Test Track.

As you design your vehicle, the information will be uploaded and different images will be used to make it appear that your ride vehicle is as you designed it (in reflections...much like when Guido puts the whitewall tires on).

So if you have created a sports car, the reflection image will appear as the ride vehicle has been upgraded with performance parts...if you built an off-roaded, the same.

Yep! The little bridge and the house screams 7DMT to me.

To me, that scene screams Snow White, but not necessarily 7DMT. Do we know anything about the scope of the story for the ride, and if their cottage would play a role in any of the limited show scenes? Maybe at the beginning or end, but I wouldn't guess it would play a starring role in a mine ride.

The first patent is basically an extension of the classic omnimovor technology where the rotation of the vehicle is controlled mecanically by a cam under the track. The different here is that it allows the car to rotate a full 360 degrees which existing omnimovers like Haunted Mansion can't do. 360 degree rotation can also be done with an electric motor in each vehicle like they do for Little Mermaid ride, but this patent eliminates some of the complexity that would be involved in that method.

What I find interesting in the patent is how it pictures two vehicles side by side. The patent is really about the control of the vehicle and makes very little mention of having two vehicles controlled in tandem.

The second one looks most likely for Disneyland's Snow White. It recently got a new lighting system that works very similar to the one described. You can see it in this video:

...Especially at 1:02-1:10 and 1:48-1:55

You alluded to a great point here - what constitutes the patentable subject matter, versus the aesthetic design in the final product. A design patent would seek to protect ownership of the ornamental design of a functional item. But these ride-type patents are typically more about utility (although they could cover both utility and design), and so not much - if any - weight should be given to the aesthetic aspect of the illustrations accompanying the patent. If fact, an inventor wouldn't want to give "too much" away when it comes to pure aesthetics, particularly in this type of competitive industry, when inventions and opening day are years apart.

Disney has always been great at filing patents.

It's getting those patents translated into excellent attractions that WDW has not done well at, for quite some time.

They have all the access to the tech, it's just that by the time it gets through all the budget cuts it often turns out to be far less than it could have been (Mission:Space a prime example, where the current attraction is what was originally envisioned as the pre-show, and not the attraction in and of itself).

Couldn't disagree with you more... And opinions like this are based on 'FACTS' portrayed by those 'IN THE KNOW' on this forum... All wrong, and all just BS heresay from "My friend who works for Disney"

Contrary to popular opinion, TDO is not cheap, not under educated, and not without vision... The problem is that vision doesn't anyways stay in sync with what others 'think' it should be... And to those people, I say invent your own cartoon character, build a multi-national company, develop a unique theme park experience and implement YOUR vision... Otherwise, get over it..... OH but wait... those people are 'protecting the vision of Disney'... Walt didn't want things to stay the same forever, and not everything he did was perfect, and when the mistakes were made, he owned it, and made it better..

The simple fact is that you are getting product related to the dumbed down tourist now... Remember that awesome thrilling attraction in tomorrowland called Alien Encounter? Like stich now? neither do I... but it's because people don't want to take responsibility for their decisions that Alien Encounter is gone..... Jr cried for 2 hours after seeing it? maybe you should have read the warning signs and not ignored it...

Don't blame TDO.. It's not their fault, it's not Glendale faults, and it isn't management.. it's the whiny "I want it my way" attitude that has taken over the entire country.... Well guess what... The United states isn't a friggin Burger King.. YOU CAN'T ALWAYS HAVE IT YOUR WAY!

Most people here don't truthfully understand the Blue Sky process (but they all think they do).... It is NOT 'build an attraction in theory and then the bean counters will hunt and peck what you can build'... That couldn't be further from the truth..

Indeed it was... And I wonder where the money went. A 3rd party ride system housed in a supermarket shed?

LOL. Well we know a lot of the cash went into getting the thing actually running after the vendor left it. The duplication of the ride system for all 4 bays also had to have been a factor.

so the story of california forcing FLE on TDO was before or after the meme dying? since thats the only thing new coming to WDW and it was forced........

Two things happened. One was a management shake-up at WDW and the other was the newly implemented "One Park" concept (or whatever it is called). Around that time TDO lost a lot of clout it seems. Feel free to prove me wrong if you have the documentation.
