News New Park Entrance coming to Epcot

The reality was that the Hat was never put there to be an Icon, it was to celebrate Walt Disney's 100th birthday. It was supposed to come down after the year, at least that is what everyone was told. The hand and wand was there to celebrate Y2K. I hated how it looked with the numbers 2000 on it. The type style of the 2000 just didn't fit the display. When they took out the number and replaced it with Epcot the lettering was in the proper proportion with the hand and wand.

I remember watching the hat go up. It was built like a structure that wasn't going anywhere. The wand on the other hand, always looked like a weird billboard on custom scaffolding to me. From a distance, I kind of get what you mean (though I personally didn't care for it*) but up close, it always looked really cheap to me.

*To each their own, in that regard.

I think the wand worked way better than the hat...

But to your point, evil Mikey thought he got so much bump off the wand - which was ingenious - that he built the hat to outlast the pyramids

I think the lights look neat at night. I wouldn't mind if they left them in the final product but made them LED color changing. Any reasons why they couldn't be bothered to paint over the footers? That looks a bit out of place.

Those aren’t “footers.” Thats simply uncolored concrete used to fill the holes. It wasn't colored because it will soon be ripped out again.

He was answering your question. You asked why they didn’t paint over the footers. Peter told you why (it’s temporary) and that they aren’t actually footers, just a different coloured concrete.

What’s your problem here? I didn’t read any condescension into it.
The fact I used the wrong word is irrelevant to the question I posed. So sorry I'm not intelligent enough to know the specifics of concrete work. There was no need to be corrected. But go off

You got an answer. And I think correcting what seemed to be your assumption they were footers might have explained to others who thought the same.

For some reason you took it personally though, fair enough.

I've been waiting for them to remove this since the moment they put it in, now I have the same feeling about Guardians of the Galaxy

I guarantee you will not notice the GotG building when you are there looking with your eyes and not seeing it through the lens of a camera. This shot is from last Nov. and we were amazed how the "go away blue" truly made it disappear in person. They photo doesn't do it justice. Also, the building is huge, but the shots you see from across world showcase have a lens in the mix. As you can see in the pic (that was taken with an iphone with little zoom) we are pretty close, almost to the entrance, and it isn't dominating.

I never said you were unintelligent nor was I condescending or rude. I answered your question and provided a correction. It’s ok to be wrong. Most people would rather be corrected when they make a mistake rather than go on believing or spreading misinformation. That’s how we learn.

So you’re welcome.

And why not add some color to blend in? If this was anything more than a few days... I call weak sauce on Disney. Fix your **** like every guest coming through is doing it for the first time!
Likely because the cost of the concrete would of risen 20-40% and they didn’t think it was worth it for something that will soon be ripped out again.

But I agree they should have used colored concrete.
