I'm not a fan of the "Ooo, look, overly-bright pretty lights!! Diznee iz the bestest!!!!" crap on SSE. Once again, subtlety is almost entirely thrown out the window in an attempt to wow the lowest common denominator. Use the pucks to enhance, not overpower and in many instances replace, the exterior lighting on SSE.
I thought this, until I visited. It looks really good when they mix the colours up, giving it a nice sense of depth. A shame that it replaces the glorious inverted sunset lighting.

However...

I read that when they were developing the park in the early 80s, Spaceship Earth had a solid colour lighting package. It made the icon look flat and ugly, which is when they decided to go with the sunset to make it pop. Sure enough, one of the options for the new points of light is a solid colour (typically white), and sure enough, it looks flat and ugly. It seems like they are repeating several mistakes from the past, but doing nothing to fix it.

The sunset lighting is stunning.

This is what it should look like (my pic failed to capture the white points of light a bit brighter, but this still gives the point):

Not the LED billboard they seem to be in love with most of the evening.

Feel free to feel as you wish. I am hardly a Disney apologist and I have expressed my pretty much hatred of Harmonius. However after seeing the show in person - though not this Muppets version - it's hardly close to what you are describing to me. The music was beautiful and really spoke to me as a musician. The lights coordinated beautifully to the moving music. I cannot wait to go back to see it. This Muppets show uses a version that I don't care for. The lights are fine though. Like Harmonius it just lacks an emotional connection.

Like Harmonius it just lacks an emotional connection, the Muppets scene(?) wasn’t what I was referring to, that looks fairly well done, with the noted exception of the wrong version of the song.
My apologies, my comment wasn’t directed at the Muppets scene(?), which looks like it was fairly well done, but they used the wrong version of the song. It was aimed at the other 90% of the time when they put the LED pucks on full power.

Jesus. I just watched the Muppets Spaceship Earth show on youtube.

I grew up with the Muppets. Every Saturday night at 6:00.

I'm sobbing. I'm sobbing. I'm a mess.

I loved it. :D
I'm sobbing right along with you. The song, Spaceship Earth, the lights. I'll be a sight to see when I actually see it in person. Love me some Muppets. :joyfull:

I underwtood that but I think you didn't get my point. The Muppets scene is my least favorite so far and I'm not upset I won't see it in person. I love the music written for the beacons and how the lights and music work together. I took videos to show my kid and he was just as entranced. His response was "Epcot at night?" for our March trip. Both of us are looking forward to it. You may hate on it, but I think it's amazing and moving in person. So while I don't love all the changes to Disney, the beacons of lights on SSE are the only new thing at Epcot I like. Harmonious stinks as do the barges and Remy is meh. I didn't even care for the new fireworks at MK. But they are at least better than Harmonious.

To me this is what SSE should have had from the beginning. And I've been going since before it was opened and finished - even have pics of it not completed. I hope it stays for a long time, but I hope Disney continues to write original music and keep in mind emotional connections make us love things like Illuminations and the music from Tapestry. The remix of old doesn't work.

I think the new music itself is kind of weak. But the coordination of it with the lights is cool. It’s also (thankfully) not some Princess or Star Wars song

I love Star Wars but I even think it can be over used or overdone. Music tastes are totally subjective. Much like I know many love Vivaldi and I am meh on them. I totally admit I'm a sucker for mid and low brass and this one did hit on that well enough for me. But I totally get why some wouldn't care for it. I suppose I am glad it was not a rehashed anything track too.

I actually don't think any of the MK fireworks have been that good. Wasn't a fan of Wishes at all. Enchantment is fine for fireworks and weak on the rest. It's better from afar. I won't be bothering to see it in park again. In fact I left the park and wound up finishing it from the ferry heading over to Epcot to see Beacons of Magic at Epcot. It was a nice show from the boat.

Harmonious is unfitting and downright awful for Epcot. What they did to the lagoon views for this uninspiring show is unforgivable. Even Epcot Forever was more fitting. Seriously I cannot explain my anger about Harmonious and really wish the barges would catch fire and go away.

I can understand and agree re: the daytime hate.

But the show itself is just wonderful to me. I adore the show. 😅

Glad you enjoy it. It's meh to me which just makes the barges worse. When they aren't working properly It's bad. When they are, it reminds me of those Willi Waterbug toys we had as kids. The redo of some of the songs were bad and half don't even fit with Epcot. I dislike projections so all is lost on me as a whole. Sorry to be so harsh but it's a disgrace after the last two shows.

I like some of the Star Wars tracks...in moderation. Start playing it everywhere, in places it doesn’t fit, and it feels forced. Ever since Disney bought Star Wars, it feels like they’ve been forcing it down our throats. Back before 2012 when they just had Star Tours, I quite enjoyed that ride and that area of the park.

For me, it’s complicated. The concept of the show insults my intelligence. I don’t care for the soundtrack. It looks ugly in the day.

...but holy cow was it pretty to look at when the show was going. I still get wowed by pretty lights, water features, and pyro.

I think by default it is the best nighttime show at WDW currently.

I love what they did with SE. I do agree that, at times, they hit them too bright and lose some of the quality. Overall, they say "EPCoT" to me. With the addition of the lights on the crossing areas on either side, it makes for a very impressive entrance!

When will Muppets be added to The American Adventure with the controversial storyline topics removed? Thematically the Muppets singing in the entry plaza fits about as much as those new dreamy polyester costumes for Voices of Liberty.
Hopefully never... The history of our nation is not all sugar and sunshine...and the actual show at the American Adventure points out the rough spots and ends on a beautiful inspirational note.
I agree about the new Voices of Liberty costumes....Yikes.
