New Orleans Square is getting Flattened

Like, who exactly does doing this make happy?

Fans of the ride are gonna be unhappy. People that are offended by the song/ride aren't going over there anyways, and changing the queue music doesn't change the fact it's literally sung in the ride's finally.

I was planning on maybe going June 14, I was invited to go with a friend who can sign me in- but honestly might not be worth the travel costs. I'm still naively holding out hope that the original Fantasmic! is the version that comes out next month... which would warrant a trip.

This is the kind of thing that makes me think there is zero chance of Splash staying. I’m usually hovering at around a 5% chance.

It really makes you wonder who, exactly, is in charge at Disneyland now.

They looked at this swap meet picnic table setup day after day for the last six months and thought...
"Yup, we nailed it! World Class Guest Service in an immersive environment!" 🤪

They look like the ugly tables they use at Costco for their fast food area.

So is this all gonna be completed before Fantasmic returns on the 22nd? And if so, will Pirates reopen before Fantasmic as well?

I don't know. And with Johnny Depp having abandoned Captain Jack Sparrow once and for all, I'm wondering if another reason that Pirates is closed is to actually remove the movie characters from the ride. The ride shut down around the same time as the drama over Depp vs. Amber Heard. Coincidence? I think not.

Is it possible that Depp being let go and letting go of Sparrow is one reason for the ride's closure? Is it possible that they may in fact go back to the 1967 original (albeit with all the stupid PC changes over the years)?

Well since Depp is still being used in the Pirate section of World of Color, I would probably say it’s less likely for now at least that Jack is removed completely from Pirates.

They couldn't just wait until the damn thing closed?!

EDIT: A couple of Splash Mountain videos that were taken from the last couple of days show the queue music in tact? Including the title song for SOTS (lol)

EDIT EDIT: apparently, there was (is?) something wrong with the sound, and lights are already out and sound is (was?) already out of sync--like really badly. I wonder if that other music was the B-mode music or something.

Interesting. Could you provide me with the links please? I’d like to compare it to what I heard.

I'm now of the opinion that the removal of all things politically incorrect like the Song Of The South theme song was overstated, or at the very least not done thoroughly by people managing theme parks from home via Zoom calls.

When I was on hold last week for 10 minutes waiting to talk to Steve at the VIP tour guide office about doing the Kardashian stunt on the Teacups, their hold music played the Ballad of Davy Crockett. If they are playing music that celebrates someone with lyrics about how he "fought single handed through the Injun war, 'til the Creeks was whipped and peace was in store" then I doubt they're going to be competent enough to remove a song about having a Zip-a-dee-doo-dah day.

The people running this company now are fools, and they don't even know what product they are using on their hold music. Let that sink in. 🤔

The Ballad of Davy Crockett still plays on the Esplanade and Swaney River still plays in NOS. I don't think that asking for some consistency is too much, honestly! XD

I'm sure it won't actually happen, but I want to go on record as being 100% in favor of removing Depp and all movie elements from the attraction. All versions of it (minus Shanghai, which came after the movies and may as well continue to exist as its own thing).

This doesn't actually have anything to do with any actions he may or may not have committed, but rather a result of my disdain for the entirety of the movie franchise and the effect it has had on the classic Pirates attractions.

Doing the Paris version in 2015 was a revelation-not because I think it's the best version of the ride, or because it was in particularly good shape (it was, like much of Paris in those days, kind of falling apart). But at that point the Paris version did NOT have Depp or any of the movie changes, the only version of the ride at that time that hadn't been altered from its opening day incarnation. I hadn't really noticed how much of the modern version of the ride has become "Where's Captain Jack Sparrow? Captain Jack Sparrow! Captain Jack Sparrow!" until I got a reminder of what the rides used to be-and how much better it was before it became tied to A Disney IP Franchise.

They can remove the movie content from TSI and Fantasmic and WOC and wherever the heck else in the parks it ended up too while they're at it!

Exactly. Even an old and Official Bad Person person like myself can realize that the lyrics to the Ballad of Davy Crockett are not appropriate or professional in the 21st century. In the song he's celebrated for killing American Indians and native species of wildlife, and even serving in Congress! (My modern sensibility rates that from most worst to least worst as; killing American Indians, then being a Congressman, then killing local wildlife)

I don't think they need to remove Davy Crockett from the parks, or change the name of the canoe ride. But removing the disarmingly blunt and wildly offensive Ballad from the corporate play list seems like a move they should have made 20 years ago, much less in 2022. Time for another Zoom call, TDA!

Thank you for this! I always enjoy these types of video updates for rides that I've been on countless times. One shouldn't only experience the parks like this, but these videos are wonderful ways to see what they've been up to. I will save this video for later this evening and watch it in the living room on the big screen with some popcorn! :)

I agree with you, they went way too far with the movie integration into the ride. It shouldnt be 5 jack sparrows and all the dialogue to be about jack sparrow. This video is great at making fun of how badly they ruined the ride:

Filmed 4/24 and you can hear “Song of the South” and “Sooner of Later” from the queue loop at the beginning and end. What @mickEblu heard may have been an error, it’s not unheard of for music loops to switch around due to some tech problem.

Yeah I don't know what I heard but it wasn't the song in the video. To be honest I didn't even know the music in the beginning of the video is the title song from the movie. "Sooner or Later" I know by name and did not hear it. How long of a loop is the Splash queue music?

Right, time to scour recent ride videos to see.

Okay, in early March it was still the proper queue loop-

And two weeks ago-

And one week ago-

Maybe it was just Zip a Dee Doo Dah that was removed?

Sorry, its probably a false alarm. I just opened the video posted linked below from YouTube and I think I just happened to be in the queue during either a portion of the loop I've never heard before or perhaps haven't heard in a very long time. I'm usually zipping through the fastpass/ lightning lane so I don't hear much but usually hear at least 1-2 recognizable tunes so I think I just jumped to conclusions which isn't crazy considering they actually removed ZADD from the resort loop. I think the bit I heard when I was in line was the "let the rain pour down" sequence. The funny part is that my moms cousin said what I was thinking out loud when she questioned the music we were hearing in the queue. What are the odds?

I do wonder though if the order of songs has been switched as it seems based on the location of " let the rain pour down" that I would have been there just about long enough to hear parts of the loop I recognize. Im also wondering if maybe they replaced ZADD with something else?

Anyway sorry I guys! Didn't mean to scare y'all!

To be completely honest I'm surprised the Splash Mountain queue music wasn't one of the first things to go, considering it's the most direct tie-in to the live action portions of SotS anywhere.

It's also kind of strange to me how the Indians in Peter Pan are still there, what I assumed would be the very first ride elements to change amid this whole Great Awokening.

You see them for like five seconds.

That's probably the problematic (or "problematic," depending on which person is reading this post at any given moment) content you spend the LEAST amount of time with in the park.
