New Orleans Square is getting Flattened

I went to my small, local zoo today and noticed that their outdoor tables, while nothing special, were nicer than these ugly green things. And no one was forced to eat in the sun, as EVERY table had an umbrella.

Oh my gosh! There's actually a building back there.

And look, they even themed it to something! It looks like old-timey New Orleans, Louisiana.

Who knew they were so clever back in 1966?
I appreciate seeing the building. I won't appreciate waiting in line in the hot sun. I hope they do something about that. And by something, I don't mean a $15 umbrella from WalMart.

It really makes you wonder who, exactly, is in charge at Disneyland now.

They looked at this swap meet picnic table setup day after day for the last six months and thought...
"Yup, we nailed it! World Class Guest Service in an immersive environment!" 🤪

I'm not sure what more evidence we are waiting for so that people will accept the idea they just don't care anymore. The fans care and are filled with nostalgic memories, but the company has been shouting in our face for years that they couldn't care less about "the old ways", "on stage", or "theming", etc.

It's like our old girlfriend has been married to somebody else for ten years, has three kids, and moved to Texas, but we still walk around talking about her in the current tense and how much fun we had, movies we liked, and moments we shared. It's kind of pathetic, actually.

Move on everybody. They certainly have.

Just did a day trip yesterday to DL. I never really minded the POTC cue, but the bottleneck it created on crowded (everyday is crowded now) days. Lots of work going on all over the place, and sadly half the rides were in straight up B mode in both parks. The other bottlenecks that really need to be fixed is Adventureland by Indy and in front of Star Tours over in TL, and of course directly behind the carousel in FL.. But ya'll know this.

Would anyone be mad if they just removed Astro Orbiter to get rid of the bottle neck at Tomorrowland? I wouldn’t. Obviously I’d prefer they move it back up to the platform where it belongs but I’d prefer no Astro Orbiter to the current situation. I also don’t care for it sitting in the hub.

No. I'm too scared to look. 😖
We bought into dvc about 5 years ago, so we're semi obligated to go every year. I know that covid caused some of their build time woes, but the glacial pace on the construction wall maze coming down is beyond frustrating. Epcot's tackiness with how it's handled the construction project is only rivaled by the current iteration of Figment.

Much rather it be up in the air or yanked. I think DL has enough spinners as it is.

Not that I completely disagree with the sentiment but there is a hole in your analogy. Every once in a while they do show us they care. Things like Tropical Hideaway, Grizzly Peak Airfield, the new Hungry Bear sign and Galaxies Edge- the execution might be lacking but its not due to a lack of effort. So in your analogy our ex girlfriend is calling us a couple times a year and saying she wants to get back together but cant get herself to leave her husband.

When we are reduced to grasping at Hungry Bear signs, we really need to stop stalking her on her Facebook page, commenting on her posts, and driving around her block late at night.

Its too soon to tell but I wouldn’t be shocked if they don’t put any trees in the courtyard or perhaps two very small ones. Looks like they want to maximize every square inch of that courtyard for switchbacks. I’m happy that it appears the courtyard is staying in some form and it looks like they are trying to keep that plaque from getting dirty.

If they do out trees I think they will be purely for the aesthetics for people standing on the courtyard and bridge and not to frame the POTC facade.

Just watched a Fresh Baked video. Some walls are down in NOS and I’m a little concerned with I’m seeing. Looks a little too wide open. Also appears they have gotten ride of the brick pavers unless those were only in front or Cafe Orleans? The area in the video is mostly in front of French Market. The area seems to have lost some character. I’ll reserve final judgment when I go to the parks on Friday and Saturday.

I'm still processing the FB video. It's kind of hard to know what I'm looking at because it's so different. While we can (and should) quibble about the execution of these changes, unfortunately I do believe they're largely essential, given contemporary crowds. So I'm trying to keep an open mind. I don't think it's as bad as it could be, and I'm okay with losing all the steps.

That said, I think those light posts look sad and strange. Why not surround them with even the most minimal planters? I'd like to see a New Orleans Square with gardens everywhere (this is why I'm still salty about the project stardust Haunted Mansion downgrade). And the loss of the brick is huge, in my mind. Main Street U.S.A received a real glow up when they added the brick in the center of the street a few years back. This is a downgrade.

Forgot to mention that light post! That solo standing one looks super awkward! Is there more then one like that? Does that mean that we lost entire planters? Ugh. I was prepared to lose the stairs and I was ok with it for the functionality in that regard. But losing entire planters, awkward light posts and losing the bricks. This is quickly turning out worse that I thought. Looks really wide open and we lost detail and greenery. Downgrade indeed.

Planters are being shrunk down, trees kept, and flattening continues.

I think this is the best outcome we could hope for, as this work is extremely necessary.
