Idk unless they are still holding back a lot about this show, it sounds a bit underwhelming.. Not as major or as big of a show as WOC. I'm thinking more of a short show, like a Celebrate The Magic/Fantasmic mixture.
So your assumption is since you don't have details 7 months away (or more), you assume underwhelming?

I doubt they'd build such a large venue for a Celebrate the Magic.

Because they announced it two years ago why's it taking so long blah blah profits over guest experience blah blah Universal is better blah blah Brazilian Tour groups make too much noise blah blah there's too much Frozen. I think that covers every potential answer.

I would imagine if they're closing Everest just for sound reasons, and not clearing for fireworks fallout, they shouldn't have to close it too far in advance and it should be very to reopen after the show ends if the park is still open since they aren't having to make sure the area is safe.
Even if they just put the attraction "on hold" during the show (and likely a few minutes before/after), they would need to clear the queue so people don't end up having to wait through the show. That means that they would likely need to close entry to the ride 30+ minutes before the show, to ensure that everybody can get on before they have to stop running it

If they're shutting the ride down for the night, they will also need extra time to take the vehicles off line and power everything down. I would guess that takes about 30-60 minutes, and would need to be completed before the show starts. California Screamin' at DCA does this, and often closes before it's dark in the summer
When they close the rides surrounding Paradise Bay for World of Color do they reopen following the show? I figured it would be the same for RoL
Some reopen and some are closed for the night. They actually power down all the outdoor attractions prior to the show (not sure about Goofy's Sky School), and have to reboot them if they reopen. Because there really isn't much time after or between shows, this usually means that only the Silly Symphony Swings and Golden Zephyr have a chance to operate, since they need to do a quick inspection, run an empty cycle, and then start letting guests on. Even when shows are an hour apart, there's only time for a couple ride cycles before they must shut down again. California Screamin' and Mickey's Fun Wheel do not reopen after the show

I just find all this ironic, since a major impetus for building Everest was to add more to the park that didn't rely on animals so it could operate after dark

True. We shall see and yes we do have awhile to go. My hopes have been really high for this show to be huge and amazing like WOC.

Photo update as of Sunday, Aug 16. Behind Flame Tree Barbecue, at the river's edge, structures for show support are taking shape.

A closer view shows several forms for concrete bases.

A view into one of the forms.

On the same side of the river, near one of the Flame Tree Barbecue seating areas, these temporary orange-painted wooden boxes have appeared. They are not connected to anything below. I suspect they are temporary and may be used for "sight lines" from the show seating area across the river.

Finally, the larger of the show support buildings shows another level of rebar for a taller structure.

Minus fountains.. But I suppose that could be details they aren't releasing yet. I'm guessing the video they showed was very early on testing as well.

Minus fountains, but plus barges and live performers and the Tree of Life. Just because the show doesn't have fountains, doesn't mean it will be any less spectacular than WOC. In fact, one should not compare the two. You'll only set yourself up to be let down if you expect WOC 2.0.

It's new and different. Unique is fine by me.

I need to see WoC in person and videos cannot do it justice but am I the only one who thinks it's a bit overhyped? I just don't get the appeal. It's probably one of those things that you HAVE to experience in person and I hope to love it when I do.

I'm happy that Rivers of Light will be slightly different, it's similar in that it takes place on a body of water but projections and water shooting in the air doesn't exactly do much for me. That being said I'm still really looking forward to RoL. I'm interested in how they incorporate the live performers. I'd assume the barges serve as the fountain/projections?

You have to experience it in person, it is a pretty impressive show.

You can almost think of WoC as Fantasmic without the live action, it's all projections, fountains and lights. RoL sounds more like Fantasmic without the fountains, more live action performers and lighting.

I agree, this will not have fountains on the level of WOC, but I am pretty sure it will have some.

I agree with you. In some way they will include fountains. I do not think that they are trying to replicate WOC but they are taking aspects that made it great and are adding new components. I do wonder if the animal imagery will be animated, live-action, or include scenes taken from the movies. Either way, we have a real treat in store and something to look forward to and ponder.
