I guess we shouldn't freak out just yet about the 2017 time frame. RoL could possibly open in January.

Hopefully it opens With the lanterns and the rest of the effects!

You know what's funny?
I'm gonna go ahead and edit the release to what they really meant to say:

Rivers of Light – Coming, maybe in 2017 but who knows, this powerful theatrical production takes Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests on a magnificent emotional journey – a visual mix of water, fire, nature and light choreographed to an original musical score. Continuing the park’s transformation from a day-into-nighttime experience, the amazing after-dark show on the banks of Discovery River celebrates the majesty of nature and the connection between animals and humans in the world. With innovative and never-before-seen technology, Rivers of Light will be unlike any other production ever staged at Walt Disney World Resort.

2017 wasn't vague enough for you or something?

Why open it during the Holiday season when the parks are packed, and training support CM for the show may be difficult. Besides the suckers are jamming the parks for their eggnog booths and sugar cookies anyway. Wait until the slow season, maybe boost some attendance numbers.

If it were my park, I'd want to get more people to come when the nightly rates are at $1000+, than when they're at half that.

Oh well, oh well. I can wait. It should be working reliably before they premiere it, can't have a float crash or a restart during the actual show.

I say they start from scratch and install a WOC fountain platform. Had they went that route RoL would have been open last Spring  and had more "wow" moments...

That would actually take far more work and be far more expensive than anything they've done for RoL, if even possible. The body of water in DAK actually has a dirt bottom and some depth to it, whereas the body of water in DCA does not. Oh, and if that were the route they went, we wouldn't have floats and boats and whatnot. And the viewing arrangement at DAK doesn't tailor well toward that kind of show.

I could go on. Even if it were feasible, I find it shameful that you'd want them to go that route.
