It breaks my heart that Rivers of Light wasn't even mentioned. As much as I didn't want a spring 2017 opening, I'd rather that then this never seeing the light of day

Correct. A free ticket into MK, a free copy of the Tiki Room MARVEL comic book, and a free Jungle Book FastPass. That's it.... there is no "special" thing planned for the final night.
They're going to ride the new trams in the parking lot!

Given the fact that Rivers of Light wasn't even acknowledged at any point this weekend (I was at Destination D), I don't think it's unreasonable to conclude that we are not seeing it until at least after the first of the year. It seems odd given all the reports that the technical problems were resolved and the show was near ready for presentation to guests.

Sounds almost certainly as though there was a special thing planned, but it got scrapped and replaced.

Well, I hope if ROL is being delayed till sometime till 2017 they make an official announcement the first of the week. Thanksgiving is this week, big crowds and they don't need anymore bad PR. I'll be at WDW the first of December and I'll admit I'm still holding out hope for a hell mary pass for it to open.

Once again, take with a grain of salt, and this is just the last of many timelines. Sporadic soft opens throughout slow season (no pattern) with official around Spring Break.

I would say yes. With all of the attention Avatar was getting this weekend. It would have been a great way for Rohde to help launch the show on the park he helped design. It's his baby. Another missed opportunity

At this point, just show a river with a spotlight on it. Or one of those Disney light projectors you can get at Lowe's.
