New Movie for Norway?

I guess i am one of the few left who actually like this film as it is.
It is 'old school' EPCOT and i dig that 'retro' vibe in the film.

Yes it would be nice to see a new film at some point, but i am in no hurry. I think Disney might be seeing a replacement as a waste of money since most Guests just automatically walk right through the post-show.

Perhaps instead of a film, they should change the theate into a constant display of images instead? What i mean is...instead of a actual 'show' have a continuous display of multiple different images cast up on the large screen dispensed with text facts about Norway. Think of your local science museum multi-video projection display and you get the idea.

Have the post-show area always open ( no closing the doors and bottling up the flow) so Guests can walk through or stay if they wish to view the screen images. This way, there is something in there image-wise but the perpetual nature of the presentation makes it so people can go or stay.

A simple fix.

I have the perfect way to get Norway to pay for a new film. Disney first make a new film that shows the Maelstrom s__________g down a ship with the sounds of drowning sailors. Over that the words "Norway" display. Then we see alternating clips of vikings bashing people's heads in and pillaging and burning cities with clips of trolls biting people in half. At the end it simply says "Norway" over a black background.

Within weeks I would anticipate a new film arriving from the Norwegian government.

A while ago there was someone who posted blueprints of a variety of attractions (or at least had a website that was linked to on here). I believe there was one for the layout of the Norway pavilion. I can't find the link but Steve's idea of having the movie part of the pre-show is not a bad idea at all. If you can have the queue winding through that room the video can be on a loop before the ride.

There was also a rumor a little while ago regarding upgrades to the ride itself. Is that still in the cards?

I'd like to take credit for it, but it was actually Joe Rohdes plan. There was a last minute change to switch things around. The postshow was always meant to be the preshow.

I've never seen the two of you in the same place at once... just saying.

I found the flickr account I was talking about. If anyone can take ownership for this flickr account, please send me a message. I'd love to talk to you:

Isn't the french movie even older? Or did they update it already?

Yes, I believe it is older.

A few things I personally see wrong with the video in the link:

1) No narration
2) Length. No way would people be willing to wait in the offload area more than the current 5 min.
3) It's simply a tourism movie.
4) Nothing in it relates to the ride except the odd polar bear.
5) No mention of Norwegian heritage and traditions, which all of the other films have.

Personally I find the current film more entertaining than the one in the link. But that's not saying the film shouldn't be updated. I agree on that part. Just keep the intergrity of what it's supposed to be.

I think ideally that the space would function better as a seperate "attraction". Especially if the ride exit could be rerouted so there isn't a constant routing of guests through the area. A new movie or perhaps a museum type space similar to the China pavilion would be welcome additions. Or perhaps they need to add an expanded gift shop or even move the dessert counter service in there.

Of course there is the expensive way. Change around the entrance and exit.

You get on at the now exit which is the new entrance. Your boat gets some kind of flag or something to show you just got on.

When you come around again you are passed to the now entrance but is now the new exit.

Or entrance and exit could both be where currant exit is now.

Just partition it in 2 and the old entrance is new something or other.

I don't put much stock in a blog that messes up the "their, they're, there" distinction.

I agree 100%; it's similar to the difference between "it's" and "its." When it comes to online blogs about relatively unimportant news, if the writer doesn't care enough to use the correct word, why should I care what the writer is saying?

It certainly is outdated, but would an update make any difference? People will maybe watch it once, at least those who knew it was updated, then they will be onto skipping over it again. The real problem is the movie was intended to be the pre-show and not the post-show - putting guests into a movie after a ride just doesn't work.
Yeah, I agree. I just don't see the point in putting in a new film just so the people are more current fashions; that's not going to improve the overall attraction experience very much. Maybe they could redesign to make the film the pre-show? Or maybe have a queue that snakes through the theater while a new, shorter film plays on a loop, like the Great Movie Ride?

Updating that film should be on their priorities list. Epcot shouldn't have to be in a sad state like that, regardless of lack of sponsorship.

As an EPCOT Center fan, I'd expect you to like the "old school" vibe, but EPCOT Center was about showcasing the nations of today. I think that's why the neglect to update it bothers me so much. Also, I like your idea there.

want Norway to foot the bill? Threaten to demolish the entire Norway Pavilion in favor of a country that is willing to pay for the entire demolition and construction of a new pavilion. I'm sure Brazil, with its upcoming Olympic games, is willing to pay for some advertising in America - they'd love any sort of international attention that will increase tourism.
Why would Norway buy such a threat? It has been two decades since a new Pavilon was built and there are still plenty of expansion pads sitting empty. There is no evidence that anybody is willing to pay.

Ding ding ding...

Just ditch it. Leave it playing (or a new one) on a continuous loop, if people want to sit and watch they can. I have way better things to do - and I kind of like that ride, at least it's something to do in the shade in WS, but I'm always doing everything I can to buzz out the exit ASAP once I disembark.

And there is absolutely no necessity what so ever to demolish an existing building to build a new one. the expansion pad where Equatorial Africa was planned is large enough for even the largest possible pavillon.

True there are 2 pads there on the left of Germany, and then another between Germany and Italy, and so on.

Which is exactly the way it is now, they leave it running with the doors open. I think eventually they may just ditch the whole theather concept and do something else in there. What irks me is the store, open up the other doors already, we feel like salmon spawning upstream in that place and its impossible to browse or enjoy it. They dont do that in any of the other pavilions, its stupid, even if just to make a buck by holding people in there, can can only move in one direction, horrible.

I will always be very disappointed that they never equipped our pavillon (Germany) with the planned boat ride (River Rhine Cruise) or at least something different however I am glad that they didn't produce another lame movie showing West-Germany in the early 80ies.
Dropping the Rhine River Cruise is World Showcase's biggest tragedy. That pavilion was tailor-made for it. Now we have to stare up at that big empty ride building.
