Rumor New Monorails Coming Soon?

Next Big Thing

Exactly. It seems posters who have been here for years should know 'the process'. Things take 3-5-7-10 years. It sucks but it's the reality. Like you said, look at things like the gondola rumors. Rumors usually start a year or so ahead of when things actually get going.
If this post (and prior posts you've made) were aimed at me, then i'm not sure what to tell you. I asked a question because I haven't followed this thread. Like at all. I full well know the process.

Sorry if asking a question is against the rules because i've been here for 10 years.

Monorail dessert parties.

Wait.. Monorail Dream-a-Wish Desert Parties! $150/head ($20/character stamped postcard extra).

No ice cream, just a thin layer of sand from the earlier guests during the day.

No cleaning the Monorail. No need to make ice cream. People who want to spend their money on a $150/desert party (Disney is a business, after all!) win! Everybody wins!

yes, with shades -
projects can and some do, but wdi could certainly stand to improve it's time to market (mr. dak actually admitted so publicly) even when not throttled by some other means

so your root is true, but i don't think it's inappropriate to ask for a timeline...
it just speaks to the negatives of how early some things get floated combined with a general want for news/status

Will the new monorails have AC?

:hilarious:

You kid but reading the latest MiceChat, seems Disneyland won't (can't?) fix the monorails AC so they have very limited operating hours because it's so hot and the monorails heat up like an oven during the day.

You really can't make this stuff up. Disneyland is really slipping lately. Who's the new VP over there?

Fair points. It's not inappropriate to ask, but this was just floated by us in April. I think if more information was able to be given out, it would have been.

It's definitely a negative of how early we hear about things. All I was meaning by "it seems people forget how the board works" LOL. We know we hear about these things at least a year before they are ready to announce it. And sometimes we know even earlier than that.

I do agree they can market it better, but we don't know what goals they have set for themselves. I won't quite call them 'plans', but I'm sure they have "goals" in mind for the project. Not saying D23 is the be all for announcements (it's not but they seem to be realizing they can use it better), things get pulled literally hours before announcement, but there's one next year. Monorails are looming. Logic just says next year. Now if we hear nothing, I'd start asking questions.

I know we're all impatient. I'm not at all defending their glacial pace. We know they can move a lot faster in most cases (#GAZEBOGATE) .... but it just felt like people were wanting more than what's possible to give right now.

I'm actually very impatient (I'm already trying to figure out what they might do even further out past the current stuff; to us it's all "old news") but these things are what they are at this point.

I also think some of it is that people are jaded (rightfully so; I am towards some things) and don't seem to believe monorails are actually in the plans (I think I probably hit the nail on the head with this; having 'dates' means it's real).

I mean, most of what gets announced at D23 is "old news" to us, lol.

(I know you agree, we're agreeing, just giving one of my long winded posts lol)

The Disneyland monorail is partially air conditioned. Both end cars have A/C and the middle passenger cars have natural ventilation (air scoops and operating windows).

And in the meanwhile, I was just there for a 5d stint on the monorail loop; they looked good and ran smoothly.

At least most of the time they seem to be doing fine. I'm ready for the next replacement as soon as they can, but the day-to-day maintenance is more important to me, and it seems to be going ok for now.

On the bus to AK though I wondered how long the metal supports holding up the beams - or for that matter, the beams themselves - are expected to last?

But according to MiceChat, there's no A/C, now, period. They won't or can't fix it - it's broken. So they are limiting the hours of operation.
You can’t fix what doesn’t exist. There has never been air conditioning in the main passenger areas and the ventilation design of the Mark VIIs was practically non-existent when they debuted.

The supports are mostly concrete, but they do have a bit of metal along the way. I'd imagine they're good for a fair amount of time (e.g at least another 30 years). Even if they were to replace some sections, the costs to replace or extend the physical tracks is nothing compared to what it was when they built them originally.

Was just having fun. The “internet broke” when this rumor started (for good reason) and because there has been no “updates” or hint to whether or not anything was happening (which is rare here because these forums are usually the first to everything) it was a stark contrast for little while now. I wasn’t expecting new trains or system already, but maybe catch a hint that their is in fact real movement.

I’d bet that’s wrong. I’d guess that by the times the beams needed to be replaced, or the metal bits, that the base itself would need to be replaced.

I really think that there are those who are alive today who will see the end of the Monorail at WDW. They’ll find another way to get people to the other side of the lake even if it means getting another ferry or running buses.

Of course, the Disney of the future might be well different than the Disney of today (management) so anything could happen.

Just reporting what I read. That's how they said it. Not my information, theirs.

Guests aside. If it’s true that the cockpits had A/C and that’s what broke, I can definitely see why they would want to reduce operating hours to avoid a pilot passing out at the controls.

A few years back I was at Disneyland on a very hot day. We asked to ride in the back of the monorail (still allowed there, at least at the time), and we were told they can't let anyone ride in the back (or front) on days this hot because it would be unsafe if the air conditioning stopped working.

They actually stop running the monorail at Disneyland when it gets really hot.
