New modern day costumes coming to American Adventure?

. So does this mean that the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps would disappear as well?
Oh, I would imagine they will be replaced by some gangster rap/hip hop/street thug entertainment. I can just see it now.....you are standing in front of a AA show building tagged with graffiti, a group of thugs finishes a nice rendition of some song promoting violence to society when they pull out a couple of 9s and randomly shoot guests. Hows that for modern?

I personally love the colonial outfits in the American pavilion and would hate to see them go. I can't imagine how a "modern look" could look anything less than ridiculous. So does this mean that the Spirit of America Fife and Drum Corps would disappear as well?
And the VoL? Likely I think- they use these small slips to ease you into acceptance. Oh, it's not colonial America anymore? Why do we have revolutionary soldiers marching here?

This reeks of some middle managers attempt at glory who will be rotated to a different position in six months with zero accountability to anyone.

LOL I was waiting for a Canadian to say something about that one... amazed it took so long! My thought through all that nonsense is that Canadians have this reputation of being peace keepers and sitting back, never acting on things, and generally just being really friendly, but we are also the only country to ever defeat the United States in a war. The Americans TRIED to conquer us and they failed...

As for costumes, I think if they can make the cast members more comfortable overall, that should be a priority, theming is really important, but if they can have a decent theme where the cast members are more comfortable, I think that should be their goal. I always feel sorry for those poor people in the hot costumes!

Crazgurl, I was born in Canada but my father was an American citizen and we moved to the United States when I was 7. When my mother became a citizen of the US I automatically became a citizen under the laws at the time. I am, very, very much, an American and proud of it. That said, on my mother's side of the family we can trace her family back to Gaspard Boucher who arrived in New France in 1634. His son Pierre played a significant role in the early history of New France.

So the new WS costumes will be 11% faster than the old ones?
Umm, no? That's not what I was saying. They could potentially be more comfortable and lightweight than the old ones, but I have no idea. I'm not going to claim to have seen anything, because I haven't. I was just saying that compared to what materials they are currently using in costumes, they could probably do better in 2012 than they could ten years ago.

But if it's change for the sake of change....or change for the sake of saving a buck....or change for the sake of "when we surveyed 50 teenagers we found sitting on benches, texting friends back home while their parents enjoyed World Showcase pavilions, we found that they didn't care much for the 'old fashioned' clothes our Cast Members were wearing" - boo on them.

Why do I think this is exactly what happened? This is essentially the way WDW has been operating in recent years. They really have no vision for what the place should be anymore, so they ask guests, who also have no vision (you know, because they are on vacation, and aren't theme park designers).

Also I can't help but shudder as to how many times some dumb redneck American asks them "SO IS THAT HOW Y'ALL DRESS IN GERMANY??"
In the case of Bavaria, the area more specifically referenced in the Germany Pavilion, there very much are a few people who do dress in that manner for their daily business, an its not tourism. You will see them just walking around, going about their day.

People being ignorant of the costumes is just more reason they should be kept. World Showcase was not intended as a mall broken into regional themes. The whole point of hte costumes and bringing in staff from the representative countries is that there is supposed to be sharing and *gasp* learning taking place.

Living in Bavaria I would agree to a certain extent. Even though it has become less common in the last 30 years I would say. But on the other hand dressing this way has increased for special occasions.

However, if we talk about costumes being outdated, I do think that the Epcot version of the Bavarian fashion is indeed outdated. It is small nuances, but things have changed. However, I think the current fashion for women would not be considered "family friendly" in the USA as it is rather revealing.

I took a survey at Disneyland about healthy eating options and dining in general (I'd like to claim they were profiling me, but whatever). The surveys I took had free form text boxes where I could explain why I rated a particular restaurant as I did. I'm curious what the surveys were like that resulted in the costumes changing. I'm curious if they had an area to explain why they felt World Showcase was outdated. Were they given a free form text box, or a series of suggested changes. I'm curious if the prospect of a new pavilion and/or a new ride was suggested at all as a means of "freshening up" World Showcase.

I can tell you from experience, very little attention is given to what is written in free form text boxes on surveys, why? Because you can't turn that into a % number that can be included in a formula. If you want to make sure someone reads those survey text boxes, do not answer any of the yes/no, rate this from 1 to 5 questions. That forces the survey to be kicked out and generally, it will be read by a human, not sequenced by the programming.

It's only a matter of time before this performance takes place in the France pavilion....I mean with all the modern updates and all...:)
PS: This is classic

Question #1: Which of the following do you feel is the biggest problem with World Showcase today? Please select one:
-The diverse array of wonderful, award-winning dining options
-The stale costumes that have barely changed since the 80's and probably are uncomfortable anyway

Thank you! That is all of the questions we have for you today!

Then I guess that makes me the first Canadian to comment on that :p

Don't get me wrong, it wasn't an anti-american post in the slightest, although I'm Canadian I do have family who are now American citizens, I was just pointing out a bit of history the troll seemed unaware of :p

Well, purely in the interest of authenticity, they should probably go this route. :D

The whole setting of AA is colonial America. Nothing is modern.....nothing. The point of the entire pavilion is a reference to a period of time in American history. Something called a theme. What I like to know is what einstien came up with this idea.

The American Adventure pavilion does not "take place" in colonial times. How can it when the show inside includes events all the way up to the last decade? Its a pavilion, not Liberty Square. You are not "stepping into the past" when you enter the pavilion.

That's how I see it.

Oh, I didn't see your post as anti-American at all. I do have some relatives in Canada, though, who would bristle at being called American.
