We first tried it because of the Fantasmic advance seating perk and now its always a must do! I agree on the slow service though.

that's the last time we ate there, on the fantasmic dinner package, and i felt like the server phoned it in because of it.

now that you can book fantasmic for lunch, brown derby is the way to go, IMO.

I've eaten there a bunch of times and never had a problem with the food. I actually think that in terms of food alone it is better than 50s or Sci Fi in that park.
I agree, I prefer the food at Mama Melrose's to either 50s or Sci Fi. For my family, it's a "no brainer" but we aren't in a rush when we eat there. When we do a TS, we like taking it slow. We'll eat at a CS when we are in a hurry. Obviously, others will have a different opinion.;)

On a food basis I agree with you. But if I am looking for the atmosphere of the other two restaurants then I have to choose one of them. I head to Mama Melrose when I want a decent meal and don't need the over the top atmosphere.

interesting. i actually have the opposite view point. it's TOO watered down for me. although, i'm from new york, where we have a different understanding of italian food.

i always say italian is the hardest food to please everyone with. it's SO personal, based on the sauce/breading/style you grew up with as tradition in your family.

I agree. We thought everything we had at Mama Melrose's tasted like it came out of a can, jar, or microwave tray. To me, it was "Italian" in name only. I don't think there's any restaurant at Disney World that was as badly in need of a new chef and revamped menu.

I also agree that many people have a different idea of what is "authentic" Italian food. Italy's regional cuisines are as varied as America's, perhaps even more so. My family came to America from the Piemonte and Lombardia regions. My partner's family were from Puglia and Sicilia. The cuisine is totally different, though we love it all.

Good point. 50s & Sci Fi are both better on theming, much more fun if you are looking for a "Disney" experience. Mama Melrose's (I think intentionally) simply feels like a neighborhood restaurant.

I think I've eaten at every Italian restaurant in the parks now, and I think Il Mulino is the only one that has even approached creating interesting Italian cuisine that is as good as or better than what I can make in my own kitchen. Portobello is working on coming back, but they still have a long way to go. The fact that they have a pretty great bar doesn't hurt.

When we ate ate Mama Melrose, I thought the food was dire. A new menu and new head chef can only help, and I really hope that it does. I'm not holding my breath, though.
