New Main Street U.S.A bypass to be built to address entry and exit congestion at the Magic Kingdom

Picture what the bypass looked like before it got theming added to it. It's just a parking lot. A CM smoking section that backs up to Jungle cruise, main Custodial area back there and the Main Street Vehicles are also stored back there. The parking lot is used nightly as a staging area for MSEP.

The throughway goes from the CM only backstage gate by the Casey's restrooms all the way down towards the gate that MSEP comes out. A quick and easy out.
Okay. Thanks :) isn't it worse then the bypass? I think the bypass looks good now, but I mean people are still complaining. At least the way it sounds.

It's really only one poster particularly that continues it. Don't think he means wrong, just think he's against guests going backstage.

And yeah, it's completely unthemed, and due to some MSEP floats needing to be staged in the parking lot, they currently can't theme it even if they wanted to. Say we got a new nighttime parade though, it may be possible at that point to theme it as I doubt any new parade would be as long as MSEP and need as much staging. MSEP is one long parade, most modern parades don't touch it's length.

I'm the poster who continues it, so if you like the newly themed bypass, you can be grateful to people like me, who have politely made their views known both to Disney and generally over the past 4+ years.

How many more years would it have taken to get it? Or would Disney have just left it as it was?

And I keep saying I really like the newly themed bypass, which is not really "backstage" when it is in use. It's a huge improvement and I think it's what should have been done in the first place.

Possibly it would, and this very topic has been discussed a lot in the past, but this particular thread isn't the one for that.

I get the feeling this was on Disney's to-do list before you ever said anything to them. They're not idiots.

IMO, the lightsticks are easily visible, it's just so crowded and most tourists (especially internationals) don't seem to know what it means so they just ignore it.

I think people know what they mean but choose to ignore them. And short of physically assaulting the guests, there isn't a whole lot left the CMs can do to move them in the direction they want to move them.

I agree, the poor cast members on Main Street have a terrible time, many times I have witnessed guests being asked to move/not move by cast members, and the guests simply ignore them completely. There is such an entitlement attitude amongst a small number of visitors.

I would hate to think that the last memories of a child leaving Magic Kingdom following their once in a lifetime trip are to be ushered through a parking lot surrounded by garbage dumpsters, cast members on their breaks, air conditioning condensers, and disused equipment. What's more, I am horrified that Disney cannot see how damaging this is to their brand.

If you drive to Walt Disney World your last memories is still going to be a parking lot. hopefully must the kids are asleep after having a wonderful time at the Magic Kingdom.

If it was profit before all else, why spend any money on the by bass. Just leave it like it was.

That's exactly my point, we were talking specifically about the use of the managers car parking lot behind the Emporium being used in addition to the bypass. This is currently a backstage area that has not been made show ready. It has not had any money spent on it.

The bypass on the East side of Main Street has now been brought up to standard.

All I'm saying is, I don't think it would have flown so easily in Walt's days.

The "What would Walt think.." card has become just as tiresome around here as people who always use Hitler-Germany analogies.

You wanna know what Walt thought? He built a Monorail in Anaheim that takes you right over the open-backstage area where you can catch Mickey taking a smoke break every 30 minutes. Sometimes everything can't be perfect.

But if it was all about money, then nothing would have been done. If it is about where someone is parking it has nothing to do with money, but someone wanting to not give up a privilege.

Of course seeing Mickey smoking is a magical event!

I have to agree with you, the what would Walt have done is really getting old with me. I think a lot of the stuff that is being complained about on this web site is just people wanting to put down Disney in any way possible. Much of the things they complain about have been going on scene the day Disneyland opened in the 1950's.

There are many true and valid criticisms of the parks discussed here daily, but just like there are a handful of people who refuse to think critically of their beloved Walt Disney corporation, there are others who would have you believe that Walt would burn WDW to the ground if he were alive today.

It's just a super lame and lazy way to form an argument.

I used that exit a few years ago during the Christmas holiday when it was totally mobbed. But this May, after I ate my ice cream on Main Street after the fireworks, I decided not to go that route as it just didn't seem like an ending to the day at the Magic Kingdom. Walking out down Main Street no matter how crowded was a more fitting end to the day.
