New IllumiNations Dessert Party

You should have the very BEST first night of your honeymoon, but you SHOULDN'T have to pay an extra 49 bucks for some dessert and a drink!

This is the problem. Disney is charging $50 for a drink, dessert and a view of the fireworks that used to be included in the price of admission and people are foaming at the mouth to fork over the dough.

We get what we deserve I guess.

Just saw this in my PASSWORD and had not heard about it:

Starting March 15
NEW! IllumiNations Sparkling Dessert Party at Epcot®, featuring a special fireworks viewing area and desserts paired with sparkling wines $49 per adult; $29 per child (including tax and gratuity). Visit disneyworld.com/springstarting March 12 for details

We had the opportunity to participate in a private dessert party during Illuminations a few years ago and it was a great experience. Can't wait to see how this compares.

I'm not terribly disappointed by this, sure, 50 bucks it a lot to charge for desert and drinks, but not in the scheme of typically overpriced stuff at a theme park, any theme park for that matter. You're not being charged to see the fireworks, but are being charged to see them from hopefully a place you don't have to camp at for an hour to get an unobstructed view, unless they oversell the event. Frankly, for 40 bucks, I'd jump all over this...50 is a little steep, but who knows. Only thing that would suck is to reserve it and not have it rain or the wind blow right at you.

You left out the number 1 reason many people including myself will line up for this.

Not having to deal with other people.

The single worst thing about parade or fireworks viewing at WDW is having to defend your territory against people who see no problem with squeezing into the 6" of air you left between you and railing in front of you 5 minutes before the fireworks start. I gladly drop a little coin to not have to deal with that.

It does seem overpriced compared to the Wishes party (especially with the kids, wasn't the kids' price for that like $13?). I've enjoyed multiple visits to the Wishes one, a large part because of what @Master Yoda said, getting to enjoy the show without fighting the crowds.
I don't tend to see anything wrong with this at all, seems like it's adding an offering that folks can decide if it's financially worth it to them or not. Times in my life, I could happily have seen it as a positive to have a $50 all-you-can-eat-and-drink kind of offering while watching that show not standing packed like sardines.

It does seem over priced and they have added some $5 a bottle sparkling wine to cover it. That being said, they could charge $50 for this as well as the Wishes! dessert party, have no alcohol, and still sell this sucker out by 9:00 AM 180 days out. Simple supply and demand.

Although you are still going to have to deal with a mob of people in World Showcase Plaza. Depending how many people they sell this to, there could easily be 100s in that space. Grabbing a good view could still be problematic if you want front row.

I was surprised by that also. Although it may be that they feel that the wedding and corporate bookings of the spaces around World Showcase is a much better earner.
Which makes me glad that I am no longer a TA. I remember what a huge hassle booking the Wishes! dessert party because you never knew when you could book them. I imagine they will be doing the same thing with this for a while.

Yeah I remember the Wishes party was always a mystery as to when it could be booked. Strange.

It will depend on how many tickets they sell for the event. I have hope because of the simple fact that they could easily double the number of tickets they sell for Wishes! yet they don't. Hopefully they know that their number one selling point is not having to deal with the aggravation jockeying for position.

No idea how true this is, but I was told that special events was in control of it. When they reached a date where they were fairly sure that they could not book it with a private event, they opened it up to the public.

My $.02.
Illuminations is not worth $50 even with sugar (desserts) and sparkling wine that i'd never drink. HOWEVER - not having to wait 1+ hours to get a decent spot for Illuminations MAY be worth the upcharge. I prefer Wishes to Illuminations any day but the rest of my party does not.
