I think we are moving into an Imagineering revolution( with all these great improvements to rides, great new concepts for rides/attractions, awesome queues, and spectacular animatronics(Ariel and Ursula look Amazing) just hoping improvements like these could be going to AK and DHS

This is excellent. I didn't know they were going to manipulate your image as well, I thought it was just going to be a projection so the ghost can do detailed animations.

What kind of real world hitchhiker rides on top of your car? Or brings balloons?

Oh good, a playground, a scavenger hunt, and cartoon hitchhiking ghosts. For awhile there I was worried Haunted Mansion was becoming more of a kiddie ride!

I agree with your sentiments, however, the hitchhiking ghosts were always "silly" so it doesn't bother me that they were made sillier through better technology

Both Ezra and Phineas are salesmen. Probably sharing their goods though seeing as Phineas was a classic Snake Oil man and Ezra a practical joke and magic kit salesman.
Personally, I don't hate this, but it could be a lot better. Giving the hitchhikers only one gag as opposed to giving them multiple tricks up their sleeves is kinda counterintuitive to this whole interactivity push. Turning your head into a balloon or putting a beard on you all day erry day is just as repetitive as the head-turning mirror figures of old.

Fantastic! I love it. I wonder if they take pictures of each rider's head - and how the ghost knows where to remove the head (high for basketball player, low for 8 year old)

Yes to the first and second ... not sure I agree on the third, they were always toonish to me, even when I rode it as a kid. I think the new hitch hiking effect looks pretty well done.

they have more than one trick each look at other videos!
Actually if you watch this video in full you can see each do at least 2 different things which is a combination of 6 different effects as of now
