News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

So although to us, these things have been known for ages, I can understand why it took other sites longer to catch up. That said, I’m surprised they would print an article with that level of ignorance.

I think the issue for me is that it is an article posted on a Disney information website, and a pretty well known one. And the fact that a simple YouTube search would have shown how the gondolas actually work.

In that case, I can't wait for the threads filled with Riviera owners complaining about the droves invading and using THEIR station that THEY paid so much for (and they ARE paying via VERY high maintenance fees, particularly wrt "transportation")! 👍
I know you posted this tongue-in-cheek and it is funny to think about the DYKWIA mentality. :)

OTOH, it doesn't make a great deal of sense for people to want Aruba dwellers to walk over to the CBR station to catch the Skyliner to Epcot and then pass right through the Riviera station - possibly even waving at the Riviera people who can't get on due to the cabins filling up at CBR. Likely, this won't actually happen due to there being plenty of room on the Skyliner. The thought of it was just funny to me. :)

I was thinking that Disney could discourage Aruba-dwellers by not building a walking path but I think they'd just use the walking path that goes around the lake, so I don't think that will happen. I wonder whether that path will be somehow grade-separated from the Riviera pool area or whether there won't really be an open segment fronting Riviera?

There are two responses to "Don't you know who I am?"

  1. Yes and they don't care
  2. No, therefore they don't care
I always laugh at this mentality, because either way you answer it, you don't get the answer you think you are going to get.

I get what you're saying re: "does it make sense" for them to walk further.

I guess it depends...
  • Does it "make sense" for them to block people from parking at the Contemporary and walking to MK if they're not staying at that hotel? If you're paying Contemporary rates and fighting for parking it does.
  • I don't think it's unreasonable for people paying more to expect a better experience in some regard in the leisure sector, particularly given how Disney is marketing this thing as deluxe.
  • The question is whether allowing people at a different resort to walk en masse to the DRR station significantly diminishes the experience of people paying $$$ for their luxe DRR experience. Are they crammed in like sardines at the station? Do they wait longer? If there's not much of an impact, then who cares? If there is, that's a legitimate beef IMO.

  1. I could see guests at the Contemporary being upset if there wasn't any room for them in the parking lot due to MK guests parking their cars all day and visiting the park.
  2. I agree. I guess I was wondering how the Arubans were impacting the experience of the Rivierans, which is exactly what you say in point #3.
  3. I guess I agree about the impact, but my point is that it may be practically impossible for there to actually be impact. Why? Because even if the Arubans are forced to get on the Epcot line at the CBR station, they will still pass through the Riviera station, making the queue longer/slower at Riviera.

So the only impact the Arubans can have on the Rivierans is there mere presence in line - so I guess if their appearance shocked the sensitivities of the delicate Rivierans... and I'm guessing that everyone smells the same, especially in the morning on the way in. :)

I think I'm in total agreement with you, btw.

Say, I wonder how much the Polynesian Villagers (Village People?) and the Grand Floridians are bothered by the TTCeans on their resort monorail? At least they're not in the queue with them. Lol

It does sound like we agree. I don't think this is fair for the argument I was making, though, which is about crowding. It's not a question of WHO is there but HOW MANY people are total. If it's not uncomfortably crowded as a result of CBR folks using the DRR station, then I think the DRR folks have no legitimate complaint. Doesn't mean some won't complain, mind you... ;)

Ok, I have tickets for Epcot Moonlight Magic night on May 20th. It would be really awesome if the gondolas were working by then.
I would ride it just to ride it. :D

I would think, by then, you might be able to see a few unwrapped gondolas going by overhead, but that is about it.

Yes they are only opening the 1st half of the line to optimize.

Haha! :p

@Magic Feather’s reply seemed to suggest that although the Epcot line may not be open by May, that the DHS line might be (with or without the POP/AoA link). I was trying to get clarification as to whether that is what he meant. Or not.
