It's hard to see in that picture you can get a better look at it here. It grips the sides of the cable, not the bottom. The two big springs keep the jaws closed around the cable. When it enters the station the bar between the springs get forced down releasing the grip.

OK, now I see it. Thanks to both of you. I knew that something would have to clamp around the cable, I just couldn't see it from that close up I quoted. Now it makes sense, thanks again.

Does Disney run buses from say MK to the Bay lake hotels? Last time i stayed at Beach club I remember world showcase closing early, and there being no bus to our hotel. So we couldn't walk back, and had to wait for a swan and dolphin bus to come pick us up. Would Disney decrease or end the bus service to Caribbean beach and Pop/AOA? or was this just a bad night for Disney...

It has been reported by several of our insiders that the plan is for the gondolas to replace buses to Epcot and DHS from all 4 resorts.

I am convinced it is just a matter of time before smart multi-destination systems become possible.

So we saw double turns at all the ends in the CBR hub? I just don't remember and its impossible to search for that kind of detail in a thread this big :)

Yes.

Switching between the 2 turnaround loops is a step in that direction. And then we could call it PRT!
I think the biggest challenge with that would be maintaining the spacing between the cars on each line without running the system significantly below capacity.
Yes, in addition to the track switches, there would need to be numerous hold points, and many more independently powered and controlled drive wheels in the stations, replacing ones that are now driven by reduction gear off the rope (I think that's how Lift Blog said they work now.) And cabins waiting around for a space to join the wire would reduce capacity.

But I don't understand why they didn't have cabins on the Epcot line switch directly onto the DHS line. Then only Pop/AoA passengers would need to transfer.

Thx

So still trying to make sense of this in my head.. since riveria is a 'mid point' on what should be a popular EPCOT line... this is going to be a common thing. Wonder why the variance and how they plan on dealing with it.

Riviera will in theory be the least busy station since it only serves that resort and maybe the northern park of CBR. Obviously they couldn't have done loops like they did on the other stations unless they made them separate lines, but I don't see why they could have done some sort of spur track for loading and unloading.

One reason is the cabins run in a trench. If two lines connected at CBR, riders would need a tunnel or a bridge to cross. Also the double turnarounds would be impossible, like at Riviera.

I will also make the mixing of the guests from various sources more straight forward. If the Epcot line went straight through to DHS you would then have to deal with loading every from POP/AOA and CBR onto a line that is already carrying guests. They will have to do this at Riviera, but that will be less of a problem since it's a single resort.
