News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

We are very much looking forward to using the Skyliner (we really enjoy staying at Pop). Something we think will really improve our transportation experience is the consistency and predictability the Skyliner will bring. One of the irksome things about using buses is that when you arrive at a bus stop (either resort or park), it's very hard to know just when you will depart. Bus arrival time postings have been helpful that way, but, that is subject to change on the fly. And the travel time depends on traffic. Work done to make the routes free of traffic lights helps, too.

And there's the question of "are we at the end of the next busload or the beginning of the one after that?" That depends on how many ECVs or wheel chairs and the size of the parties with them that show up before the next bus arrives. We feel that when you arrive at a Skyliner station, we will have a good idea of when we will get to the park or hotel. It will take a few trips to get a feel for that, of course.

The one they never built. Planned for LBV.

Destination selection. Station lay bys and bypass track. Elevation changes. Enclosed vehicles.
You've just described a PRT.

The original concept of WEDway was unpowered vehicles propelled by rotating tires in the trackbed. It was first implemented at the Ford Magic Skyway at the 1964 NY World's Fair and then on the Disneyland PeopleMover. On the WDW PeopleMover/TTA, it evolved to magnetic propulsion. A PRT with autonomous self-powered vehicles doesn't really fit into that evolutionary pattern, but I guess Disney can call it whatever they want.

To be clear, the WEDWay MK3 wasn’t self powered. Same system as the Mk2.

I call it “line anxiety”. When you wait in line where only limited people will get through it adds a lot of stress and anxiety. While a steady moving line doesn’t cause the same stress. Another good example is boarding a plane. People who want to get there bags in the overhead bin huddle close to the gate waiting to hear their boarding zone called. You can see the stress on their faces. The crazy part is even people in the early boarding zones feel it when they should know they are going to get their bags on.

When on vacation limiting “stress” shouldn’t be a necessary goal, but sometimes it is at WDW. Waiting for buses is one of those times.
