News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner -

I would guess there will still be bus service, just not direct bus service between locations served by the Skyliner. Disney would not add the Skyliner without either being able to reduce busses or increase overall capacity.

When one form of transportation goes down, busses provide ability to reallocate resources to compensate. The busses provide flexibility in the system, not redundancy.

We don't have to guess, we have enough insiders telling us that this is the plan. As @GoofGoof said...

There has been no indication that regular bus service would continue to those parks from those resorts. Any talk of that is just wild speculation or in some cases maybe wishful thinking. What would be the point of adding the gondolas if they didn’t take the place of the buses?

Is the thinking of WDW and its practice regarding the Epcot resorts that have ferry service and MK resorts that have monorail service.

This only becomes a question when someone doubts it and then states their doubt as if it were a fact as if they had inside information.

All insiders are agreed: Pop/AoA/CBR/Riv will not have any sort of regular bus service whether at full schedule or a lighter schedule when the Skyliner is running.

I agree that there wouldn't be bus service, but, it is still a guess because with Disney nothing is absolute until it actually happens and even whatever happens has no guarantee that it will remain that way for long. I don't think that the current plan will change because it just doesn't make sense to add this and then just keep bus service operational.

It is a fun way to provide transportation to the parks, it is a different approach to the problem and I believe will be a reason why people will be booking at the Gondola resorts and may be spoken about like the Monorails originally were back when they were thought to be a new way to provide inner city transportation. I plan to ride them just to ride them. Let's face it, it will be one of the longest rides in all of WDW end to end. If you don't count Ellen's Energy and we cannot anymore.

Yep. I think it will be second in popularity to the monorails. Can't wait.

It's not a guess to know what WDWs are for right now.

Let’s not get into pages of this. Nobody here with inside information has stated they have heard there’s going to be continued bus services for EPCOT or DHS to the gondola resorts as long as the gondolas are running. They have all stated the opposite. With all things Disney insiders share the information they have at the moment but it’s all subject to change at any time (and we all know they change their minds on plenty of things). This should really go without saying by now. Unless I missed something in the past 696 pages the plans as they are known today do not include the bus service too.

Have any permits been file to redo all the bus stops at each of these resorts ? Or change them all over to Magic Kingdom bus stops thus increasing the numbers of buses to MK and Aminal Kingdom?

They are not likely to re-allocate the buses to other routes, unless those routes are currently very overloaded. As @peter11435 said, if they do change the signs it may not be a big enough thing to need a permit, and even if it did, we won't see the permits until well into next year.

Good question. I think the CBR bus stops will remain unchanged. They will still have multiple stops around the resort but each stop will service AK and MK only (plus DS and waterparks). They will have to add signage to get guests to the gondola station. I’m sure they will handle that when checking in too. I doubt they will increase MK and AK buses as a result. Just less overall buses.

For AoA there’s only 1 bus stop right? I think in that case they will just remove the DHS and EPCOT permanent signs and if they need to run buses in an emergency or weather shutdown they will just use temporary ground level signs in their place. Again, they would need to add permanent signage to point guests to the gondola station and it’s also not likely they will add more buses to MK or AK to compensate.

I'm sure they have plenty of buses that are ready to be sold off that would normally be replaced with newer stock anyway. Attrition is how they will cut down the fleet. What excess they have will probably be used to do things that they now hire outside bus companies to do. Many of the newer ones could easily be adapted to make the Magic Bus run. They are all capable of running over the road, they just don't do it yet. I'm pretty sure that just changing destination signs at stops will not require any permit to do.

They can also be reallocated to new rooms added. Not sure if they plan to add any new buses for the new tower at CSR plus they are adding the new River Country resort. They could cram more people on the existing buses but at some point they will need to add more buses, especially in busy times.

Haul rope is on for the Pop/AoA line. Here's something bizarre though. Tower 12 appears to have been taken down. It's the last one before the return terminal. Was standing last week. Now sitting on a barge.

Have you ever seen a tower taken down when the haul rope is up like that? If they put that tower back up will they need to take down the rope?
