News New Gondola Transportation - Disney Skyliner

I don't know if it's a strong impulse guests have as much as just a coincidence that it happened to be the case for all Deluxe resorts in the past. It's actually a major advantage in terms of noise to have your room open to the outside because there are no lunatic kids running down the hallway and they have more robust soundproofing on the doors. My favorite resort is Animal Kingdom Lodge but if I were most concerned about getting a good night's sleep, I'd rather be at Old Key West.

OKW is kind of the exception here as the layout is unlike most other resorts (SSR is kind of similar). For me the difference betwen the moderate door outside and the deluxe door inside is

A. the kid running down the hall at least is buffered by the bathroom, in a moderate they are right outside the windows
B. and speaking of window in a deluxe it leads to a balcony. In a moderate it's the common outdoor hallway.

The kid isn't running as much at the moderate because the hallway is zig-zaggy. The indoor hallways at AKL and WL are straight lines, which kids see as invitations to sprint.

Yeah, I get that. But they are also not mutually exclusive. Other discussions have gone into the plans to add concierge floors (or buildings) to some of the resorts, possibly all as time rolls on, so it's not just location. It can't be. You aren't going to be able to charge 300/night for a room at AOA, even if a costumed castmember runs you personally over to the park in a rikshaw. There have to be perks beyond that.

They've already shown people will pack in at that price level for the location.. but if they could charge more, they would be. So they have already hit the pricing threshold, and Disney thinks in multiple dimensions.

If they build a gondola system, you can bet it will be marketed as a perk.

Granted, I'm talking about Christmas week, but they already can and do charge $500/night for a suite room at AoA, and $220/night for a standard room. The lowest per-night price that week? $181/night at All-Star Sports. You don't honestly believe that TDO doesn't think they will be able to charge more for rooms at AoA/Pop once SWL opens and if the gondola system to from AoA/Pop to DHS is up and running? TDO sees nothing but dollar signs in all this.

Can you clarify how many separate lines there will be?

By lines if you mean "legs of a journey" it would appear you have-
1 - EPCOT to New DVC
2 - New DVC to CBR
3 - CBR to DHS
4 - CBR to AoA

I doubt Disney expects passengers to transfer at each stop. I'm still expecting some type of automated switching enabling through cars to make complete journeys from one station to various destinations without stopping.

Since I drew the orignal map, I knew that part. :)

I am assuming no automated switching, so I am trying to figure out where the transfers will be.

Pure speculation on my part but I would think a continuous line from EPCOT to AoA with 2 stops at CBR DVC and CBR south then a second line from CBR south to DHS. The CBR south is the only place with a potential switch.

I think it has been said it was 3 lines, but it made sense to me for just 2 lines.
One line be from Epcot to DHS with load/unload available at New DVC and CBR.

The secondary line from AOA/POP to CBR where there would be a transfer to the main park to park line.

Oh, of course they will. There's a much needed secondary transpo option there, plus it's an immediate "upgrade". Not arguing that at all. But I also think Disney is, as noted looking away from "level" resorts, and will be, in the future, going to multi-tier amenities in the same resort. It's a no brainer for them. Put a couple of concierges in a building (or a floor), and a lounge, and you can charge people a lot more for snacks and direct contact with services (rather than calling "the front desk" and getting an off site call center. At poly this month, the concierge gave us a direct text contact.. which was a beautiful thing). People will pay through the nose (myself included!) for that as well.

What I was trying to get across is that simply upping the transpo allows them to raise prices a bit. But upping the transpo AND giving people service perks as well? That's even more of a license to print money than they have now. And, if you look at the hotel trends currently happening elsewhere, the days of rooms you can hold a square dance in and gold plated faucets are waning, it's all about service now, for the top dollar rooms. I think they are looking to cash in on that, by offering them at as many resorts as possible, rather than just the "Deluxe" resorts. You still aren't going to get a poly or GF feel from AOA.. but you might be able to get the service level.. for a hefty upcharge.

That would make the most sense to me. Make the southern CBR building be the transfer point.

Riding the "main line" as it were would be much like the resort monorial. Getting to DHS from the main line would be like switching to the epcot monorail. At least, that seems to make the most sense. People getting on at the transfer building, of course, would have their choice of which way to go.

I agree with CBR South being the transfer point, but why not make EPCOT to DHS the continuous line? If EPCOT to DHS is the continuous line, then the only people in the whole system that have to make the transfer to another line are those that are going to AoA/Pop. If you have to transfer to DHS, then everyone staying at CBR/DVC and the IG resorts going to/from DHS would have to transfer as well, when they could otherwise just remain in the gondola.
