Not to poke the bear, but according to a recent Jim Hill podcast, the gondolas will have air conditioning.
(Teri ducks and hides.)
I'm thinking that there must be a lot of confusion when one set of "insiders" think that AC stands for Air Conditioning and the other set thinks AC means Air Circulation. Only one side will be right. I'm betting on the Air Circulation one to be correct.

He also stated that the cars will load from one side and unload from the other which I don't think is possible, although he could be mis-interpreting "load from one side of the station and unload from the other". He also stated that this is "only the start" of the system and will eventually include AK and Disney Springs.

If you put everything out there, you're bound to get at least one thing right eventually.

One question: how did you make your way to this site? You’ve been an invaluable resource, and I was curious what led you here. Was it the early discussions as members were discovering the secret plans?

I had head rumblings within the ski industry in the weeks leading up to the news breaking here. I didn't even know which Disney park it was going to be. I searched Disney fan forums and found the permit thread just a couple days after the first gondola documents were posted in early February 2017. I posted about it a few days later: https://liftblog.com/2017/02/15/disney-possibly-planning-gondola-network-at-orlando-resort/

Well, we were the site that broke the news about the gondola. :)
More like you broke the news about the gondola.

If the car can hold 8 sitting, I would think there would be space to 16 standing, the question is would the weight limit prevent that? @Lift Blog thoughts?
The standard capacity for the cabin we saw on the trailer is 10 persons or ~1,850 lbs. I guess it's possible the cabins are being beefed up for standees but given the rest of that podcast I would take with a grain of salt.

And if what he is saying about AC is true (I am skeptical), that would add even more weight to each car.

What do you think about the other statements in the podcast, specifically the speed of 16mph?

I took his explanation to mean sides of the station not sides of the gondola.

I listened to Jim too (yes I know that is bad) and am still trying to figure out how you would do real A/C in this kind of vehicle. I am an electrical engineer so I keep trying to imagine the power delivery to each car. Would you string power cables to each car and how to you get power onto a moving cable? Then he talks about the cars going slower during the load/unload portion which might make sense but not when you have a power cable attached. What do you do about the power connection when you slow the gondola????
The expansion of the system may make sense but I doubt it would reach Disney Springs because why pay for parking when you could park there for free?
I am purely guessing to but I hope his sources are actually knowledgeable and not someone making up a wish list.

The system is definitely not set up for a powered wire along the way, and so, they'd have to rely on batteries, most likely a super capacitor, which adds more weight and expense.

Speaking of expense. Imagine the maintenance of trying to keep 160 personal ACs working working 14 hours a days for almost every day of the year for years to come...

The system is London uses Ultra capacitors that charge in the stations. Supposedly this system doesn't work well. I have not heard of any other method of powering AC on a single cable system.

Maximum D-Line speed is 7 m/s or 15.7 miles per hour so that is totally plausible. The podcast sure is intriguing. More lines to Disney Springs, etc. makes total sense. Level walk in cabins is right. But I don't see how cabins can have doors on two sides. Two sides on the stations yes.

The one system that has real AC is detailed at the link below. Batteries are charged at night and when cabins pass through stations. There is no power passing through the haul rope. Cabin capacity of 8 persons/1,410 lbs. is reduced to 6 persons/991 lbs. due to the AC.

Someone should get a closeup of the hangers that are sitting at the north end of Hourglass Lake. Then we will know because they are a different shape to accommodate AC.

If we don’t have them by the end of the month, I’ll grab some shots then.
