This is the area I'm most excited to see complete for the gondola's, the moving kinetics of the gondola's and boats set amidst (hopefully) well done landscaping with the new France facades should make a very pleasing area to view.

Yes, there's going to be *a lot* of kinetic energy in those gondolas!!

Just driving by the Epcot -> Riviera turn station (with a bus driver spouting wonderful bus driver rumors) and snapped this pic. Three Bullwheels?

You’re aware of the gondola cost?

No, but you said you were.
I thought I took your statement about the relative cost, interpolated it to the significantly longer path of the gondolas, and found that "already" (as in, without adding even a second station to the WEDway) the WEDway figure came out higher.

I must not have communicated well.

I’m thinking Martin was factoring that in with his statement.

He has hinted the cost of the gondola is somewhere north of $200-230 million.

Pretty sure peoplemovers connecting the same resorts could have been built for that price or less.

I don't know about that. The cost of building the track for a WEDway system would be pretty high. Instead of putting in one tower every few hundred feet, you'd be looking at a support going in roughly at about the same distance monorail supports go in.

The price Disney is paying for the Skyliner is outrageous, but I'd have to say to build the same connecting points using a WEDway would be even higher.

Only when elevated.

Fair point, but much of a system would have to be elevated. Or have crossings of some sort over areas. The points where they clearcut for the Skyliner could obviously run at ground level, but would that drop the cost enough to put it below $200m? If it did, wouldn't TDO opt for the cheaper system?

Elevated or not, in order to be usable in all weather it would need to be built like in MK with a covered track over the entire trek. I'm sure by the time they ran it over water, under or over highways and parking lots it would have been a whole bunch of money. I suspect that it takes a pretty good load of electrical power to run it those distances too. It is not as simple as just building a track and throwing a few six passenger vehicles on it. The last time they built one of those in the states was in 1971. I would venture a guess that it would be a major amount more now then 47 years ago.

I doubt WEDWay even came into it. Remember this was born from a desire to connect CBR to Showcase.

Funnily enough, no it would not.
Martin, I know you are not famous for discussion board detail, but, no, what would not? It would not need to be covered? Or it would not cost a lot more now and exactly what miracle are you conjuring up that would make it "economical to build" when everything else on the planet is extensively more expensive?

It would not need to have been covered.

Sorry for the brief reply. I’m eating in Coral Reef. And discussing the issues of the Gondolas with cast from this very park it will impact.

You could have roofs on the individual cars like that of the original PeopleMover in Disneyland. The LIM tracks don't need to be covered though, plenty of trains use them today without any cover over the railways.
