The key word in an irrational fear is irrational. One experience may be fine while another, not as high, is terrifying. That said, I don't think it's this huge mass of people that will cause serious issues in Resort operations.
If I recall it starts on Monday the 8th and realistically it will be at least a week if not 2 before we see anything worth photographing.
Those would be the same people that won't ride splash because of the heights?

You're obviously entitled to have your prediction but I wouldn't rely too heavily on that being accurate. One of the main goals of this project is to reduce the need for buses on property, so building this and continuing to run buses would be counter productive. There is little to no chance that a project like this and it's on going operating expenses would have ever been approved if it didn't result in reduced operating expenses elsewhere.
The problem you may have is that Disney may tell you - gondolas are the transport to those 2 parks. If you don't wish to ride the gondolas, you are certainly free to get a taxi. It will be no different than someone not wanting to ride a bus from a resort. If you don't ride the bus, you hire a taxi or have a rental car.
