New Gillig Buses

Mine too! I will often stand in the alcove near the back door if I'm boarding a full bus and have the opportunity. That way it keeps any kids away from it, opens up more space for others....and also let's me off first, lol.

So many times I'll be there and see that nobody is going up to the "upper deck" in the back of the Novas, or just aren't going any further than the rear doors on any given bus...and I just want to scream at the guests, and the driver.

But I know the driver can't always see it, so I can't get too upset with him/her, except for not making an obligatory PA announcement about it. Sometimes they need to be a little less magical, and a little more forceful, and insist on people moving further back. Something like, "We're not leaving until 10 more people board this bus - please keep moving to the very back of the bus" would work nicely. Then the Motivators :)

The kid and I normally try to snag the very back of the bus, and if the bus is crowded (like end of day busses tend to be) I'll have her sit on my lap to free up another seat. She may be too large for that this year though <sigh>

Or if you are standing in the rear doorwell just announce and call forward "there's more room back here!!" loud enough and that'll keep people moving towards the back of the bus, I've done that before when I saw lots of open space back there, called forwards "there's room back here!!" and people came in and got more people onto the bus!

Good idea. Saying things like that automatically put people on the spot, even en mass. It's hard to be that person who stopped, and ignore loud verbal warning while everyone is looking at you. Of course, there are many individuals who just aren't phased by it.

I think many people who take the bus at WDW don't normally take the bus and have no idea that they should move back. They also have a different idea of "personal space" than public transportation allows!

I don't think they're being rude on purpose. They just haven't learned HOW to take the bus yet. :)

"There's room back here!" seems very helpful and might even help those who don't know how to ride a bus, too! :)

72 people on those buses allows for absolutely NO personal space. The joys of public transit!

Goofy should make a "how to" video that they play on the resort channel!

I'm on the side of "need more personal space", so that's one reason I try to get into the rear door well - gives a bit more room. But you're right that many (probably most) WDW guests aren't familiar with public transportation.

Heck, Disney introduced me to public transportation, as I had never been on a city bus (or subway) until our first on-property stay in the 90s. I quickly learned how it worked though.

Oh, so true. Even better when you're standing with your nose in someone's armpit as they hang onto the overhead bar.

Oh, how I so want to be in Walt Disney World right now... :)

Seriously though, much as we may gripe about the buses that image does bring back memories of many a evening back from the parks.
