It's the little engine that couldn't...

Of course "it is the little engine that couldn't," good one! :D Where else other than Disney would you find an engine encased in a fence, would make commuting a real bite.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
I've been on Little Mermaid three times, but never have I seen Flotsam and Jetsam working.
Last time the holocrabs (I'm coining the phrase, deal with it) next to Scuttle in the queue weren't working either, but I'm guessing that was just a temporary issue.

I don't really know where this should go but here I go: The Rose mosaics in the Be Our Guest have tiles physically removed to the the point, on one rose it looks like someone took a bit outta it ...

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
I am really disappointed in the Madame Wardrobe thing. I will go to bat for Disney on just about anything and I think that 80% of the complaints about the parks are a little hyperbolic...but there is NO EXCUSE possible for the Wardrobe not working properly, less than one month after the official opening. NO EXCUSE.

What I think happens is that the Imagineers don't fully understand the wear of having something actually run every day for however many times a day it needs to run. I think they build something, test it a few times, and then rely on computers to tell them that it "should" work okay in daily use.

I think generationally we're seeing more and more people who have spent their young careers relying on what computer models tell them should happen...only real life doesn't work that way. Real life is much harder on equipment.

I am actually very angry hearing that the Wardrobe is broken and is being covered with a hat or something. I'm going to write a few letters about this today to TDO to voice my displeasure.
Seriously? Why would you write a letter (pardon me, "letters") to a major corporation to voice SOMEONE ELSE'S complaint - that you read about on the internet?
Patricia, you keep saying that you will take a wait and see attitude. So ... wait and see. And then, only then, voice your displeasure. I find some of your responses disproportionate to the situation. A situation you have yet to experience first hand.
I think I'll write a letter to Toyota because my neighbour's car is on recall for something or other. Meanwhile, I own a Ford and a Nissan. Bizarre!

As for fatigue testing and longevity of theme park engineering . . .

In the 80's I remember being in the post show for World of Motion. There was a display
there where a pneumatic mechanism opened and closed a car door repeatedly, to show
testing. A CM staffing told me the story that GM originally was going to contribute a
rig that they engineered to do just such a thing.

To which WDI replied "silly car manufacturer, don't you realize that you have to manufacture
things to much higher standards for a theme park? Your mechanism needs to run to test
car doors. Ours needs to run from 8AM to Midnight, 365 days a year, for years and years
and years. We'll take it from here."

HA!HA!

I guess I just always felt there was so much pride in the parks, where they would not, could
not, let things slide, or not work. That's what made them so remarkable to me. Each thing
of this nature removes a bit of the magic.

A few years back I took the backstage magic tour and we went to Central shops and I remember them having a animatronic deer from the River of America. They said they have to test them for 48 or so straight hours. While we standed there, it failed and they had to restart their test again.
I wonder if they still test like that??

We all have to remember that fantasy land still is a work in progress The crabs with scuttle weren't up during previews at all and its funny to think so because half of his dialogue involves the interaction with the crabs! As for the wardrobe I went yesterday and she is working just fine and still singing!! But I have to say I have never seen flotsam or jetsem work ever, I'm almost afraid that they are static and I'm really hoping I'm wrong.
