You now have my attention, what's your definition?well the word had a different meaning when I was growing up. Now I realize that somehow the internet took it over and it now means "a newbie to an online community" which is odd to me.
So I recant my statement.
um...stinker?You now have my attention, what's your definition?
I've been looking forward to a new "remove the hat" thread for awhile...finally get a chance to express my opinion.
I don't think the Tower of Terror is a perfect icon for DHS, but it's a bit closer to that than the hat is. The Earful Tower or the Chinese Theater are much better fits. I think the one thing that the Earful Tower (and I really like the Earful Tower) has against it is that it's relatively small and unnoticeable and set back away from the action as compared to other park icons.
In general, I'm "meh" on the hat. I think it looks nice and all...and might make a nice icon for some other (non-existant) park with a different theme. But I struggle with seeing how a sorcerer's hat is an icon that represents "Hollywood that never was and always will be" (which is a theme I wish DHS would get back to). And I dislike how it blocks the view of another building that *could* perfectly represent that theme.
And it's a minor nit, but it bugs me that the hat essentially killed off the aerial Hidden Mickey in that portion of the park. Most of the Hidden Mickey is still there. I say remove the hat, trim a few trees, and repaint the roof of the Disney Jr. theater and bring that little (big) detail back to the park.
That said, I don't *hate* the hat. I just don't like it where it's at. Move it somewhere else where it's not so out of place and it'll look just as awesome.
I'm on the other side of this. While I don't like the position of the hat...and I was upset that they painted the starts gold a few years back since the actual hat has white starts and moons, I think that it more accurately depicts the essence of the park than ToT does. What better recognizes quintisential Disney and Hollywood that Mickey's most famous role? The Sorcerer's Apprentice is exactly how Mickey and Disney should be romanticized (sp?) when it comes to the "Hollywood that always will be." I just think the placement is terrible...move it to the entrance courtyard or to the Crossroads.
Could they move the Earful Tower to a more prominent position?
If Carsland is built, removing LMA and BLT, will it have to be moved/removed anyway?
I'm busy wandering around Google Earth at the moment - could it be moved to beside the entrance to Animation Courtyard/Fantasia Topiary/The Brown Derby, or where the American Idol screen is? I don't know whether it would look odd or out of scale compared to the theater. If you're not going to add it to Hollywood Boulevard (in the place where all the other "weenies" are in the other parks), is there anywhere in Animation Courtyard/Sunset Boulevard it could fit? (possibly backstage behind Sunset Market, or beside Fantasmic!, but then you would possibly get scale issues with TOT)
I just like being difficult.um...stinker?
I was just giving you a hard time because you don't agree with my position on the ToT not being a good icon.
I've also made a mental note to make sure that non-serious insult words haven't had their meanings changed recently before I use them.
You're a piece of work, Tim, you know that?
Have you been to Hollywood lately? Abandoned is an excellent reflection of it.I will be in heaven if they remove the hat!
However, ToT should not be the park icon. How can a spooky, abandoned hotel symbolize a park about movies? It should either be the Earful Tower or Chinese Theater. I'm leaning towards the Earful Tower, as long as its put in a more prominent position where it can be seen such at the entrance of the park.
Looks like Iam the odd one out here, but hats off to the hat.I love it.

Ok so I'm confused by those who are saying that the hat isn't a good icon for a movies themed park (which I disagree with due the the Sorcerer Mickey link) but a water tower is? Don't get me wrong I too love the Earful tower, I just don't understand what it has to do with movies. A water tower as a park icon, really?
