I loved the view down the Blvd before that hat showed up. I want that restored. Now. The theater or the Earful Tower should be the icon. Bring on the sledgehammers!

I am wondering if the reason why they went with ToT is because they have plans for the theater and the tower will be torn down as part of the CarsLand expansion?

Okay, can someone tell me, once and for all...was that hat installed in DHS because it obscures the view of the Chinese Theater, which was done because of legalities and image ownership and so on? Or is that just a myth? I've heard that story for years but have no idea whether or not it's true.

There's no way Tower of Terror is the new icon for the park...this is strange and a bit fishy, for sure...but I seriously doubt Tower would be the new icon for DHS. IN fact, I think the hat is a fine logo for the park! Pretty much suits DHS. It's just in the worst spot imaginable. I say "move the hat" but keep it as the park's icon.

In the 90s which was officially the icon: the Chinese Theater or the Earful Tower? I seem to remember both getting use as an icon. Hell, I feel like I even remember ToT showing up as the icon in a few spots, although maybe I'm misremembering. Seems the park's always had a bit of an identity crisis; anyway, I'd prefer a park icon that isn't present anywhere else in the world, so that leaves the water tower as my pick.

The Earful Tower is in Walt Disney Studios Park, Paris, although it is called the Earffel Tower over there.

They've been using ToT as the 4th icon for over a month now. I actually like it. When I used to think of DMGM I thought of the Chinese theater. Once the Hat was put in place the first thing that came to mind was ToT.

It's big, one of the greatest rides ever built, but not the park icon.

As for the Hat covering the theater story, it's all a myth. There is no legal licensing issue.

And they use it as the park icon. Somebody else said TOT shouldn't be the icon either because it's in three other parks.
I don't understand that logic. Why can't it be the water tower? Why can't it be Tower of Terror? After all, there are 5 castles as park icons.

Once again: there is no truth to the Hat covering the theater for legal reasons. Myth myth myth!

This whole argument over the DHS park icon makes it painfully obvious that the park has very little in the way of iconic architecture. One (BAH) is butt ugly. One (the theater) is hidden by the butt ugly one. The other is the ToT (which is AWESOME).

Then you have... well... umm... a water tower with ears? A big guitar? A bunch of ugly squat buildings where they can use the excuse that "well, they're sound stages...they're supposed to be ugly and squat?"

The hat has been absent from quite a bit of DHS material lately.

But I have to agree the Tower would be a poor icon. Should either be the theater or the Earful Tower.
You'd think if anything they'd try and bring back the earful tower if the hat went.

They need to make the Chinese Theater the Icon especially if DHS 2.0 is going to be about going into the world of your favorite movies. I say we burn the hat and have a party at the theater, who's comin!

I love this image and I feel like tot is just as good as anything else. The hat is just too darn distracting. I remember when I could walk around DHS with my eyes closed. Now? I think that hat confusing my direction ability.

Good point, forgot about that. Guess it bothers me less in the way that all Magic Kingdom parks have a castle...

Not to split hairs, but there is only one Magic Kingdom. :D

And I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate the hat. I understand that the parks should probably not use another company's property to promote the park (the controversy real or not), but the water tower would be perfect if they built it bigger, and better right in the spot the hat sits right now. Or, tear out the hat, stick it in the same shredder they obviously put Mickey and Minnie's houses into, and make the theater the icon despite the real theater being owned by another company.

One Little Spark...
I think they should go back to Earful Tower. The problem is, while the tower is still very visible when you come in the main drive, you really can't see it from most of the park anymore...so, it's not as iconic as it used to be.

You can however see ToT, and I'm find with it being the park icon...that, or the theatre.

Meh honestly I don't like the theater either. Not because of copyright but because I want something that you can only see at Disney or that screams WDI
