Sorry. Loved the old rooms better. Looks less like a Polynesian bungalo and and more like a Comfort Inn. But, to each his own.

100% accurate. We’ve stayed in the new rooms a few times. They are incredibly well done on many levels.

We greatly enjoy the BoardWalk and stay there at least once a year.
However, having looked at The Cake Bake Shop's menu, $26 Club and $26 Po' Boy sandwiches solves none of the BoardWalk's quick service dining problems.
WDW is in desperate need of a good sports bar. We've tried Rix (Coronado Springs), Splitsville (Disney Springs), as well as a bevy of other hotel bars. All pale compared to the ESPN Club.
Unfortunately, The Cake Bake Shop seems like one step forward (reopening the ESPN Club space) and two steps back (yet another overpriced restaurant at a location that already has two and the loss of Disney's best sports bar).

Have you stayed in one? Having stayed in both it was definitely a huge improvement. I’d like to know what comfort inns you’ve been staying at. Regardless that’s a ridiculous comparison.

Nothing screams turn-of-the-century seaside boardwalk in the guise of Coney Island like $19 chicken salad sandwiches and high tea. And let’s be real, DIS will almost certainly raise the entire menu a couple bucks.

Nah, it didn't. But when something gets replaced, you hope the upgrade fixes, not perpetuates, the problems of the thing its replacing.
On a strictly functional level, Cake.Bake seems to create a new problem, since it seems to offer a somewhat less accessible food option in a location that needs the opposite. ESPN offered a spot to stop by for an (over-priced) burger and fries. That's a necessity in a resort area.
Anyway, the main issue is we're about to see a de-theming of Boardwalk's interior areas into the same bland aesthetic that blights Saratoga or Riviera. Oh well.

I actually think thematically cake bake works. It’s something you might have found on the boardwalk. Things on the boardwalk shouldn’t be self referential to boardwalks but rather things that would be found on this boardwalk.
I think we need to wait and see as far as de-theming across the resort goes. That has been admittedly hit or miss

My secret hope is for a Speakeasy type dinner show with Italian cuisine. Looks like I'll still be waiting.

Been a while. But yes. I think Disney could do it much better.

I think it’s great news that the resort is receiving a refresh. This resort needs it badly. Rooms are outdated and the updated dining will be a welcome addition. ESPN needed to go. food was crap and service was hit or miss. The cake shop will be popular with Guests. Hopefully the room updates are similar to Yacht Clubs and not character based.

I agree, however I feel that Disney could do much better with what they have. Should not be so hard to get a decent slice of pizza at a resort.
