New Enhancements, Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk

It's not like a meat slicer is some kind of highly specialized piece of equipment that requires certification.
True, but supermarkets here in NJ make their deli employees be certified to use one. I don’t know if it’s a union requirement or the stores but FWIW, slicing machine accidents are one of the most common employee injuries in a supermarket

My point was just that it's a relatively simple ask -- it's not like Jersey Mike's is hiring specialists to make sandwiches. They're probably making minimum wage or maybe slightly more.

Depending on local regulations and union rules age, training and employee certification may be involved. Workmans comp claims are likely to be higher.
There is a reason why Subway doesn’t slice in the stores.

Disney might slice in the store.

I just think the risk of bloody finger injuries in guest-view will be too great for Disney here…if they slice right there, someone will be cut and some jerk will absolutely live-stream that.

Will it really be like a NY deli and slice the meats per order? Will it be more like Subway and slice the meats offsite?

Slicing machines have training, safety and some places age requirements
Jersey Mikes slices the meats per order and heats the sandwiches on a flat top (which I think is the bigger differentiator), and they’re a pretty big national chain.

But I expect this’ll be more like Subway, which I still do enjoy.

Yeah, I'm aware -- my point was just that it's not a major ask. Jersey Mike's isn't paying their employees more than Disney will.

I think we're saying the same thing.

A slicing machine will make it harder to redeploy CM within the restaurant and between restaurants.

I don't think trying to be at least as good as Mike's is an unreasonable goal. Is Disney more like Subway, cut to save a few dollars

Are they storing the cuts of meat onsite? Do they have room to do this within the bakery? I doubt they will have a deli-meat case at the counter.
How long would it take to slice meat for each sandwich to order? I feel like some are expecting a real deli to open and I don't think this will be it. But I could be wrong.

Perhaps they have a slicer off-site, and then deliver sliced meat daily.

Guess we'll find out.

It doesn't take Jersey's Mikes much longer to make a sandwich than Subway despite slicing all the meats, and it makes a huge difference in the quality/taste.

With that said, I don't expect Disney to actually slice everything fresh -- I just wish they would. I think what they'll actually have is a small variety of premade sandwiches.

By default they'll come Christine's way. Those are slightly smaller portions for more money, so that you lose weight in your gut and your pocket at the same time.
No, it’s gonna be Chappie’s way…all lettuce, tomatoes onions and spices extra…

If they’re going to preslice the meats, a model to emulate would be Wawa…MUCH better than Subway IMHO

I join you. Goodbye ESPN! Never went inside. Never wanted to. Last time I stayed at the BoardWalk, I was having an amazing final Disney day at Epcot. It was a Sunday in the fall. We walked back to the room, still full of Disney giddiness to wait for our Magical Express and walked past ESPN to the sounds of drunken fans screaming at TV screens, some were outside as well. Disney bubble popped! Not the final memory I wanted from that trip. If that makes you happy, more power to you, but it’s the wrong spot for such a place.
I'm so sorry you had to endure that absolute horror.

you laugh, but I experienced the same thing... It was a wrong fit for the resort...And truthfully I do not want to see franchise chains inside the bubble... Disney Springs has gone that route...but the resorts should not have an ESPN Sports Bar or an Applebees... the offerings should be unique and special...especially when I am paying $400 a night to stay in the Disney bubble....

Starbucks is a national chain. I preferred the Main Street Bakery over the Starbucks replacement.
ESPN Club was unique. Boardwalk was its only location. EPCOT has its sharing of drinking guests.

ESPN Club was packed with drinking guests, but only occasionally. ESPN Club would still be open if the experience posted by Chrisbarry was frequent.

Not a big loss to me. I agree with your conclusion but not with all your logic
