I agree that their current website is hard to navigate and loading information is ridiculously slow. I think my feeling on it is this... If the current CM's that they have on the phone lines cannot provide you with the same information from on CM to another.... How will they be able to provide information on the website to even more people??

I`d say they should just save their time and give Steve a large donation :D

- half the time we know more about them then they do

Do you really think a Disney owned/operated forum will allow people to post "Gee, the new DVC at the Contemporary is ugly" and let that stand?

Or.. maybe have 2 years worth of "Gosh, i wish they'd tear down the Epcot Wand" like we had here?

Oh - and would an official forum appreciate "Hey look! Permits for building the new unannounced ride!" and other such posts?

If anything, it would point out how blatantly at times Disney is disconnected from its fanbase. As it is, we can pretend they just dont hear us. Well, Disney is proposing an official acknowledgement of Whoville and with that Disney can't pretend Horton is just hearing things.

   Thanks for the laugh! You just said what I was thinking of saying except I wanted to read all the posts! I would for sure join such a board but there is no way they will be able to be impartial. Why don't they just keep lurking here?

And yeah, I looked a few weeks ago and under Operation Updates there was nothing for any park. Every attraction was up and running. :lookaroun

I really dislike the Disney website. I avoid it like the plague. It is very slow and takes way too much time to download quotes for vacations, ect.... Maybe a discussion forum will help them to keep their website updated and faster. I hope it works out for the best and a bigger, brighter tomorrow, er, website, but....I have my realistic doubts.

Neither does disney, their website has got to possibly be the worst to navigate and get things to load so you can access information.

Havent read below this post but I 1000%. Its very hard to navigate the current site without some sort of computer tech degree. I think they are more into showing "flash" action then actual results. They as a company have talked about this but I haven't witnessed a change in the last 2 years.

They have changed the store which was minimal, they also changed the TV type site which is much improved and almost comparable to other kids sites (still misses the mark)`. Wonder if they want glitz vs actual performance cause to me this current reservation system, ride / park viewing is horrible.

Now I say this out of love for Disney. IMO I do hold them to a higher standard. My expectations may be to high but I am a poor mans IT guy and I could do better. Sure do the flash page 1 but every other page make it easy / fast to navigate. Right now thats not the case... so for this thread, I would entertain the argument that they still need to work on the main site before trying a community forum.

KUB EDIT: and after skimming the below posts, yes the DIS site is slow for a reason. mentioned above they would rather have glitz/flash then something that is actually usable. MISTAKE #1 in website building.

This is a little late in my opinion.

Everybody will sign-up... just because, and to see if anything interesting actually happens.

The real "juice" will remain on the already established... tried and true... websites such as Magic. If anything, I would predict Magic's membership to go UP if they did this. We have already discussed hundreds of issues, topics, rumors, etc... and just like any company, I wouldn't be wanting to reveal too much about current thoughts, plans, and processes.

As a matter of fact, I forsee hundreds of current members constantly plugging their own websites on Disney's.

*clears throat*

AHEM! Hey Disney folk! (WebImagineers :D) Keep using the money to enhance the current sites/info you already have up and running!

...Leave the technical Q&A's and discussions to US!

I only have so much time in a day for message boards. What would be available on the official site that isn't available here, or on the Dis, or somewhere else?

Easy. You'll just choose from these easy to use DREAMQUICKCHAT©®™ replies:

-"I love Disney!"
-"LOL"
-"High School Musical Rocks!"
-"Yes"
-"I just went on an Adventure©®™ by Disney©®™!"
-"Year of a Million Dreams, great celebration or GREATEST celebration?"
-"I laughed so hard watching Chicken Little on Disney DVD"
-"That is rad!"

I'm open to the idea but it will never be as helpful or informative as this site. We can say (for the most part) are opions on things in Disney. I highly doubt a board run by Disney would put up with years of post about wanting the wand gone. Even if they say they won't edit it after a few hrs. of some smart__ saying Universal is better or some smart person like us saying that Disney is doing this wrong the editing will go out the window. They can give it a shot but this will always be my home for Disney talk.

My employer blocks access to the official www.disneyworld.com website (classified as entertainment), but I can access WDWMagic from work, so this is where I'll stay.

I agree that an official WDW forum would censor posts that criticized the parks, management, attractions, wand, etc.

I'm on a couple other forums besides this... and one of the biggest potential issues I have with an official Disney forum is all the spam. Some might not think spammers would try "advertising" their p0rnography and such on a Disney site, but if there's anything the Internet's taught us, it's that nothing's outside the realm of possibility. Thankfully on said other sites (and yes, this one), the moderators are quite swift in deleting it from existence. But whatever amount of possibly SECONDS this could appear on a forum, even with vigilant moderators, is still bad news for Disney to be associated with.

(Or the other option is filtering the crap out of the postings, so 99% of the words in Webster's aren't allowed and you can't form a coherent sentence. )
