As first mentioned on the Disney Blog, and discussed here (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=634817), today at 12:45ET in NYC new plans for the Disney Parks were announced.

Below is a detailed description of the event.

The event was hosted by America's Funniest Home Videos frontman Tom Bergeron, and after a short monologue from Tom, he introduced Peter Yesawich, CEO of Ypartnership. Peter gave a great presentation on the data that Ypartnership was able to provide for the Walt Disney World Co., and how that data will inspire Disney to launch the new 'Let the Memories Begin' campaign in January of 2011. Next was a surprise appearance from Michael J. Fox, who shared a few great Disney memories with host Tom Bergeron. Then Tom Staggs came out.

Tom first talked about Disneyland; WoC at DCA, Aeriel's Adventure, ST 2.0 and the newly themed entrance to DCA. Nothing new, just reviewing.

Tom then talked about the Disney Cruise line division. He shared his excitement for the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder. Again, nothing new; just reviewing.

DVC was the next topic, with a brief review on Aulani. He said Adventures by Disney had exciting plans, but he didn't elaborate.

Tom then talked about the new Memories campaign, and how excited he was for the new 2011 campaign. He then shared two commercials from the new Let The Memories Begin campaign. The commercials featured home videos from real families. One of the families featured in the commercial was then interviewed on stage. He then shared with us that people can submit videos and pictures from their days in the park, and those videos/pictures from the same day will be projected onto Cinderellas Castle (WDW) or IaSW (DL) each night to a new song (song 'Let the Memories Begin' by Montego Glover -- IMHO, it was just OK)

Then the WDW news we were all waiting for came. Big News. BIG BIG NEWS!!

NOTHING!!! NOT EVEN A WDW SHOUT OUT!

For more information on the new Disney Memories campaign that will begin in January 2011, read more about it at www.DisneyParks.com/memories.

EDIT: Here is one of the LtMB Campaign videos shown:

You should not be the slightest bit surprised. They do these events all the time and not only does WDW rarely receive mention but almost nothing is ever revealed about anything that would remotely concern us. Like all of the events before it was underwhelming as expected.

Even though I am excited about the new promotion "Let The Memories Begin", i am very disapointed about the broadcast. They talked about WOC in Disneyland (which is nothing new) and mentioned the new ship coming out in Jan, 2011 (again, nothing new). I really wanted to hear something about WDW, maybe the new resort, FLE, or SOMETHING!

Well I am surprised. I can honestly say that.

With the press release for the memories campaign going out before the broadcast, I thought the point of the show would be centered around something different than revealing information we already knew.

Yes, the conference was pretty lame. But when you look at the Grand Scheme of things, 2011 looks like it will be a much better year for the World. We are going to have the new-er Pixar parade and Star Tours for DHS, A new Savannah Walkabout for Animal Kingdom and A a new Castle show for Magic Kingdom. Toss in the replacement of the extremely tired, "What Will You Celebrate" theme with Let the Memories begin theme and we are looking up. And I think the marketing could be a lot of fun as well.

Unfortunately they never are. If you want to be ahead of the curve on what is coming up in WDW visit WDWMagic often and listen to what members like Lee, marni71, raven and a few otters to say. If you want some fluff and a few celebrity appearances watch the press conferences.

Yeah I've been around for awhile, however just recently changed my username :lookaroun

Even a year ago at D23, while most of it we knew, there were still some surprises at the FLE press conference, and confirmations on other rumors (ST 2.0).

I guess that's what I was hoping for. I kept waiting for him to say , 'And at WDW, the memories will continue beyond 2011, as construction will soon begin on the new MI coaster opening in 2012 at DHS.'...or something to that effect.

D23 was a much different event. They advertised that there would be a good amount of upcoming park news. The press conferences on the other hand have always been just a bunch of fluff. They are somewhat interesting to those that don't think about Disney 24/7 but for those of us that do they are a snooze fest.

I missed the full conference (I was in class) but I haven't heard anyone mention WHEN this is starting, or HOW the Castle show will fit into an evening at MK.

Any help from my Disney darlings here?

I think the disappointment derives from the fact that they didn't announce the revised Fantasyland plans at what could have been an opportune moment. Which makes me wonder- are there any upcoming press conferences during which they could be unveiled?

Disappointed and confused. How are they going to project the pictures on the castle...Reinstall the giant 'mirror' from a few years ago and show them on it. I got it...stick a giant jumbotron in front of the castle. :brick:

C'mon, nobody really thought they were going to announce something important without us having heard from back channels two weeks ago, did you? We are long past the time when Disney could keep anything interesting a secret.

That's exactly what it looks like.

God, that song is just awful too.

FLE was kept secret until the plans showed up mere weeks before and still people thought it was a joke.

I really don't see how a giant announcment would lead people NOT to think something in the parks was going to be announced.
