Sure, everyone likes new attractions. But I go every year, and I never get tired of anything. A new attraction is just a bonus. Everyone knows when FLE is complete, their minds will be blown.

As for prices going up.... What isn't going up? Everything has gone through the roof. I would think disney would do it too. It is a business. But, they also give free dining every year anymore, discounts on resorts etc. It just doesn't take much to please my family. We've enjoyed it for over 25 years. Toy Story Mania opened up this year and it's one of the best new attractions, we have SO much fun. We don't think about "well, when is MK going to have a new big ride?" Lets all wait and see what FLE brings us, and go from there.

Also, I am from South Jersey. We laugh because getting a shore house for a week is about the same price as going to Disney World for a week. WDW gives you a special feeling, so many things to do and so many memories. As going to a South Jersey beach just leaves you with sand in your a$$.

Everything is overpriced. So I don't see a Disney Vacation as being so much more overpriced then any other vacation

I guess my biggest problem is that the campaign seems to juice up nostalgia for the parks even more, without offering any substantial or tangible new experience.

For years WDW has been relying on nostalgia of older generations who have visited the park, hoping to bring similar experiences to their children. This promotion just ups the "cute" factor without anything REAL coming to the park in 2011, save a little new entertainment, which should be cycled out more often anyway.

New attractions are what drives attendance and keeps things fresh and interesting. It's been proven time and time again over the years. If you are happy to just re-ride the same old thing, I think you may be in the minority. Most people who are spending thousands of dollars for a vacation want to see something new, along with all the classics. 20 years for a major new addition to MK is far to long.

Toy Story Mania opened in May of 2008 :)

This was basically a shortened version of the D23 Expo, but was held in New York, and talked about nothing new. That is plainly stupid. :brick::mad:

Honestly I wasn't expecting much.

Hmm...does that make me jaded?

Oh and "Let The Memories Begin" reminds me a little of the "Remember The Magic" campaign...and not necessarily in a bad way.

YES, Thank you. You are making my point. If you go every year, like a lot of us, you should not complain. You clearly should be going because you enjoy WDW for what it is, and its nostalgia. This is why I enjoy Disney every year and never have a complaint. If you go every 4-5 years, you usually have a few good new things to see. If you go every year and expect big new things every year, that is all your fault. I go every year, and if there is something new, I look at it as a bonus. But if you go to Disney every year and you feel the need to see a big new attraction every single time, then you should rethink your vacation plans every year.

I also do agree with the second statement. I can't say Magic Kingdom doesn't need some new attractions, they do. But it never has and never will make my trip sour. FLE will be done soon enough, until then enjoy WDW for what it is, and for the reason you've been going for all these years. The expansion will be amazing. All the parks will get new stuff eventually, you just have to be patient. I can't stress the word PATIENT anymore.

I haven't noticed anyone here saying they expect a new big attraction every year. What I hear is people wishing there would be something big at some point.

As you agreed, MK is in need to new great attractions. The more recent additions and changes have been disappointing for many of us because we DO care and love the parks. What you are labelling as negativity is, to me at least, really more disappointment and frustration. Sure, we all know FLE will be here soon and will have cool stuff but people are just eager to hear more about the revisions and that translates into irritation when you get a poorly executed press conference that highlights a marketing campaign designed to turn the castle into the world's largest movie screen. It has been so long since there has been something new at the MK of the caliber we are all accustomed to that we, as a collective group of FANS, tend to get our hopes up when there is announcement. I consider today a learning experience.

I will say however, that I have already executed your advice to us. I was formerly an AP holder and went to WDW three times a year. Then I cut to once a year, and now my most recent visit was 10/09 and I have no plans to return until there are several new experiences. Interestingly, I have discovered that there is a whole 'nother world out there of travel possibilities and I like that my hard-earned dollars can be used to take me to places that offer new experiences. And I am not alone in this.

Maybe it is just me, but while I like chocolate chip cookies and they make me feel good, after eating them for every meal for a few days, I bet I would get tired of them and they would be less appealing. But if you add some nuts or peanut butter or toffee pieces sometimes along the way, I might keep coming back. :)

This is the lamest "celebration" I've ever heard. Couldn't come up with anything else? Really?!

anyone else see this as an opportunity to submit a lot of memories from before when WDW was designed by WDI and not ruled by DWI and TDO?

I just submitted a memory as well:

I remember when Disney didn't use these silly, pointless marketing campaigns to get people to come to the parks. They just took good care of the parks, had friendly CM's, and let me order a cheeseburger on a sesame seed bun instead of a whole wheat bun.

Ahhhh.....Memories.

Yeah, I agree!

We were joking last night when I broke the "big news" from the announcement to my other Disney friends that they might as well just call the new ad campaign...

"REMEMBER WHEN THE PARKS WERE NEW AND EXCITING!!!"

What, they didn't mention anything about fixing the broken yeti?

Oh, they were concentrating on Disneyland? Well, then, did they mention fixing the broken dragon?

NO?

I'm shocked! SHOCKED!

But seriously, this was indeed, a bust. Projecting tourists' pictures onto the castle? Um, have you seen some of the tourists that prowl around Disneyland? The way they dress? Maybe they should save this gimmick for Mickey's-Not-So-Scary-Halloween-Party. Of course they'd have to drop the "not-so" from the title, but it'd be in the spirit of the season.

I was here yesterday, plowing through page after page of excited speculation, searching for actual news. I gave up after page 22 and went to lunch. Looks like I didn't miss much.

Just a few things:

1) I think the new marketing campaign is pure genius. Vacations are all about creating memories. So, let the memories begin. But, rather than staging some actors to go on the rides, they are using real people. Real people identify with real people. I believe this campaign will bring more new people to WDW than almost any other campaign they've done.

You're kidding, right? This kind of advertising (which is all it is) has been done for decades. Companies just haven't marketed it in such an obvious way.

If you've seen the video of the press conference... somewhere around the 36 minute mark (I think), they show 2 of the commercials. How many parents are going to start planning a way to surprise their kids with a trip to Disney. It is an "identity" campaign, plus it creates a whole social media blitz of everyone sharing movies and photos.

I doubt anyone is going to start planning a vacation for that reason. People have been surprising their children with trips to Disneyland/WDW since those places opened. A commercial showing that certainly isn't going to be the motivating factor.

Many of the past campaigns, in my opinion, appealed to those who have been to Disney somewhere in the past, wanting them to come back. This campaign will appeal to both new and returning guests.

No, it won't. Disney is practically implying that it's only NOW that you can make memories. It's a ridiculous campaign with absolutely no substance.

I like it... a lot! It's real. Nothing staged. No rehearsals.

Sure. If you don't think these "real" people won't be performing in hopes to be picked you are delusional.

2. The live press conference with Tom Burgeron as the host... ugh. That was a flop. Horrible jokes and a big turn off. Disney Productions could have chose a better means of promoting the new campaign. It was tough watching... sifting through the 45 minutes waiting for a few nuggets of news.

I can't stand the man. He's the poor-man's John Davidson (who was equally as annoying).

3. Everyone gets in their head what they want to hear when there is word of a "Big Announcement" from Disney.

And there was nothing "big" about this announcement. Disney is now advertising: "You can NOW make memories at Walt Disney World, and if you meet our cliched idea of what a family looks like, we might feature you in an uncompensated ad!"

Then, when it's something different, many people are disappointed that it wasn't what they wanted to hear. The PC was for one purpose... to announce the new campaign. It wasn't to go down a list of the 5-year plan of all the new stuff coming to Disney Parks.

When the only thing you can advertise is the actual ad campaign itself, you are selling a stale product. Companies launch ad campaigns, they don't advertise them as the new product!

4. I must agree with Flip83 as I read through this thread... a bunch of negativity that seems to be unwarranted.

Some is, some isn't.

WDW is not MK. WDW is 4 theme parks, water parks, golf, resorts, Downtown Disney, water sports, dining, etc., not to mention relaxing and simply vacationing. There is new stuff popping up every year in all corners of WDW.

New restaurants, shops, or other paid experiences are pointless additions when they aren't included in the price of admission. If Disney wants to keep raising admission, they need to add something to justify it.

And, if it isn't new, it's being improved... like Space Mountain.

Hardly. People here tend to get excited over a new carpet installation as if it some great new thing. Space Mountain was just a maintenance project. The cosmetic changes were just that. A new E-ticket would have been better. At least Star Tours is getting a complete-enough makeover that it is an entirely new experience.

Just because there isn't something new at MK for 2010 doesn't mean there isn't something new in other corners of WDW. But, have you looked at the recent aerial shots of the FLE? It's gonna be incredible.

I personally don't get too excited over mounds of dirt, but to each his own. FLE is needed, but it isn't really adding anything of real significance.

I think when prices for admission, parking, food and resorts is increased year after year, the paying guest has every right to expect something in return. Magic Kingdom has not had a major new E-Ticket attraction since 1992. Does that seem right? Don't we as Disney fans expect more? Remember this is a company that makes BILLIONS in profit a year.

Disney's biggest fans are also their harshest critics. In most cases though, it's like wanting the best for you children. People know Disney can do so much better. Events like today just rub salt into a wound.

You spoke for me! Bravo! :sohappy:
