Ok so if you look at the timeline...

Magic Kingdom opens in 1971
Epcot opens in 1982
MGM opens in 1989
Animal Kingdom opens in 1998
...2008?

Anyone else feel like there should be a park sprouting up anytime soon?
Just curious to know if anyone's heard some rumors. :veryconfu

Just a friendly warning...alot of people here are pretty hostile towards people who open a thread about a 5th park, so don't be surprised if you get flammed.

As far as my own personal opinion, I don't think there is a 5th park in the works anytime in the foreseeable future, nor do I wish there to be. In my opinion, there's plenty to improve on at the Studios and Animal Kingdom before they start thinking about a 5th park. Of course, if they were to open one, I'd certainly look forward to going there, but I just think there's too much work to do yet in making AK and DHS into full day/evening parks before they start thinking about a 5th one.

I really hope not. At this time, DAK and DHS need some more love (which they seem to be getting). Epcot still needs to update a few more things, and put something into all the empty space around the park. Lastly, MK hasn't had a major E-Ticket style attraction added since 1992 when Splash Mountain opened. Short answer, they have a lot to do at the current parks before they worry about opening a new one.

Sorry but i dout a 5th Gate will happen anytime soon. The reasoning behind it is that as Sbkline said DHS and AK have a bunch of work to be done yet to bring them up to par with MK and EPCOT in therms of attractions and things to do to make them all day parks. Also if the JII rumors are true Disney will be pooring money into EPCOT and lets not forget they just spent money redoing SSE. Rumor also has it that SM in MK will be getting a refurb and that wont be cheap, and it wont be the first ride over there to get a big referb how bout the Haunted Mantion last year or Pirates right before that and if they plan to add a new E-ticket over there anytime soon that wont be cheap eather.

What im sayin is that the money that disney would be putting away for a new park should be and i think is being invested into what they already got a new park would be sweet but its just to soon even if the next few years are within the new park build cycle. but hey thats just my opion

well like others i think disney may want to open a new park but the way the economy is i just dont think we will see it soon. there has been alot of chit chat about classic rides getting alot of love soon for an upcomming disney annaversary. but if i had to put my money on something id say its going to be refurbs, new rides or possibly a new themed land some where in the MK.

In any case I think there may be a ton of people who agree, Disney should be annoucing some type of annoucment on some thing in the near future

I've actually heard alot of talk about Disney's Night Kingdom or possibly Disney's Wild Kingdom (similar to a discovery cove park) opening in the next couple of years. I've heard (not sure how reliable fellow CM's are) that its been under construction for a while now and is going to be near AK, so if it flops, AK has a new land. Again, I'm not sure how reliable this is, but go look at Google Earth new AK...there's definently some big construction going on there.

I would be shocked if 16 new attractions were added over 10 years let alone over the next "couple" of years.

I'd settle for a 5-7 year plan of 1 or 2 "D" or "E" attractions in each of AK and DHS, a new country and a WoL replacement in Epcot and an "E" attraction in the old 20k spot at MK.:animwink:

The only thing annoying about 5th gate threads are the dorks who find it necessary to complain about 5th gate threads. Sorry, we're all not special like you and know EXACTLY what Disney thinks about building a 5th gate. :hammer: For a company that basically has the image of building the impossible, a lot of people seem to think that they will never build ANYTHING!

I agree with the time table theory and that it seems odd that there isn't a 5th park there. But the world changes and if you stick in an important date that happened in 2001, it was probably enough to set back tourism for at least 5 years. And then once that started rebounding, the price of oil shoots up like 500% in 5 years and raw materials are triple or even 10 times what they cost 5 years ago. Even worse, with the airlines taking a beating, its kind of hard to spend $5B in R&D and building something when you might not even be able to get people there!

In the 5 years it might take to get a park off the ground, it could cost 5 times what you figured it would when you started. Until the economy gets back on its feet (unemployment announced today the highest in 5 years), it will be a loooooooooong time before Disney gets firm on a 5th gate. Of course, I hope I'm wrong, but I can't see it making economical sense right now or anytime soon.

This would be great if they are "NEW" and not just a refurb with Stitch, Wall-E, or character of the year thrown in. Oh and an Original creation without characters to go with the other 14 or so might be nice. I also think these actual new attractions are the way(especially at DHS) to go over building the 5th gate.

WDW doesn't need a fith park for a long time. There is PLENTY to do in all other 4 parks, especially in DAK which is still a kind of underdeveloped. EPCOT is partly severely outdated and MK hasn't seen a new major attraction for nearly 2 decades. I don't want to see money wasted on a fith park as long as at least 2 parks are sub-par.
