Also, it might have been a joke, but I saw someone mention Godzilla. That would rule. I wonder how that would work, with Legendary Pictures working on a new US Godzilla for 2012 (more likely 2013 at this point). What kind of relationship does Disney have with LP (or for that matter, the original Japanese studio, Toho), if any? A Godzilla dark ride at DHS (or even AK?) would be mind-blowing. You know what? I want this as bad as a Disney Afternoon re invigoration. I've been a fan of the big G practically since birth, I'd love to see him stomping around. A meet and greet with Mothra and Rodan? Totally insane. Hahaha, maybe at the Japan pavillion in Epcot?

Godzilla attraction actually was supposedly pitched for Epcot's Japan.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned, but I read yesterday that Disney may be interested in Angry Birds. That would seem like paying too much for a fad.

Maybe they could be incorporated in the Tiki Room as a new replacement for Iago and Zazu.:lookaroun:hurl::D

I think it might still be too soon to say if AB is just a fad... I could really see it being the next Tetris. As ambivalent as I am about the game itself (it's definitely fun, but I'm not obsessed, mostly because I don't have a device I can play it on) there was tons of merchandise for it at Cedar Point when I was there last week, and it just seemed corny, maybe even tacky... but that could just be that I find a lot of merch a little bit corny/tacky.

If Disney's going to dip into video games, I'd way rather have plumbers and electric mice over ill-tempered foul and green swine.

It was through Hollywood Pictures...Which is a division of The Walt Disney Company..If the movie were successful I'm sure in the early 90's we would have seen the Plumbers doing meet & greets with ugly looking Koopa troopas on New York Street........:hurl:

Still baffled by the choices made in making that movie. Why was it not a cartoon? Why did they make it a weird dystopian sci-fi movie? Why did they abandon everything that makes the Mario series what it is? I'd love to someday see a Mario movie done right, but I'm sure Nintendo is probably once bitten twice shy on that front.

I agree with disney afternoon characters.
But what I really want is Gargoyles.
I guess those aren't new characters, though.

Well Snick is back, Disney better jump on the 90's are cool again fad.

It would be interesting to see some of the late 80's /early 90's shirts again.

It was the 90's any cartoon was made into a live action movie (Batman, Ninja Turtles, Spawn). I don't know how else they could have done the movie, we have seen different levels but nothing could really be used in a movie. Mario Brothers just should not have ever been a movie, but Nintendo did it for the cash.

It would be interesting to see CMs dressed up like the different birds walking through the parks.

Disney has a complete treasure trove of characters they could be doing more with. To name just a few of the more major characters (off the top of my head):

• Chicken Little characters
• Bolt
• Hewey, Dewey and Louie
• The Rescuers
• Oswald
• Hercules
• Tarzan
• Dug (from UP!)

All of these characters could have franchises built around them. Unless Disney's going to get DC or Lucas characters, any others would just muddy up an already crowded roster IMO. Disney needs to do a better job of taking full advantage of the characters they already have before adding more.

Thank heavens they're finally doing something with the Peter Pan characters (although I don't personally think they're getting the most out of them).

The biggest mistake (and I understand why) is not building a franchise around the Incredibles. At the very least, give us some tv specials to introduce some new "supers" until Bird is ready for a movie sequel. That way, Dis could design their own superheroes without having to wait for Marvel. Tie it together with Edna Mode or something.

I could also see a show with Dug and Russell going on different adventures.

Flushed down the toilet by all the crappy Sonic games of recent years and the horrifying "Sonic Recolor" obsessed furry fanbase?

OK Ill give you that. But sonic and crew are still cool characters! And the funny part, Just like the crappy Disney DVD sequels, those sonic games sold very well. Why? Kids liked them. So you see, it would fit right in.

Hey Guys!

I heard that while talking about their Q3 earning, Disney has hinted about purchasing new characters/franchises to add to the Disney fold (as they did previously with Marvel).

What does everyone think about this?? What current non Disney franchise would make the most sense or make you the most intrigued??

The article mentioned Bob the Builder as one potential character, but to me he just blends in with the playhouse Disney gang. I'd love to see something that's different then what the parks currently have to offer.

Yeah I think the marvel franchise is coming to Disney. This past weekend I was in a disney store and they had tons of marvel merchandise. Alot of thor, captain America, spiderman and more. Disney does definitely need more boy friendly characters and partnering with marvel will certainly bring that
