New Disney Characters??

Hey Guys!

I heard that while talking about their Q3 earning, Disney has hinted about purchasing new characters/franchises to add to the Disney fold (as they did previously with Marvel).

What does everyone think about this?? What current non Disney franchise would make the most sense or make you the most intrigued??

The article mentioned Bob the Builder as one potential character, but to me he just blends in with the playhouse Disney gang. I'd love to see something that's different then what the parks currently have to offer.

I don't know about 'buying', but they should at least license the classic Nintendo characters.

Is Bob the Builder even on the air anymore? Not sure why they'd even want him when they have a comparable character in Hanny Manny.

Because its cheaper (and easier) to license/buy existing, well known characters than to try to build one from scratch. Why do you think Hollywood is so enamored with sequels, remakes, and reboots? Its not because there are no new ideas. Its because the old ideas sell better than the new ones. People like what they know.

After all I heard and read J.R.R. Tolkien despised Disney and his movies (actually entire Hollywood), I think his son and heir Christopher Tolkien wouldn't sell the franchise to a company his father actually hated.

Bob the builder doesn't make sense to me. Handy manny has that covered. Lord of the rings might be cool.

It's also much lower risk to use proven characters then to develop new ones that may or may not catch on.

I'm cool with this. I'd like to see them get the Power Rangers back. Seriously the new show Nickelodeon put out is painful!

But instead of buying other characters. Why not reboot Doug or Recess? We all know them and many people would like to see them!

I concur about the Nintendo characters. They just fit well together. Then Pixar can make a Zelda movie...:drevil:

Also, they should do something with Miyazaki and do something with those characters.

I'd rather see them reboot Darkwing Duck, Duck Tales, Tale Spin, or Rescue Rangers. I don't see the Nintendo gang being a good fit. I agree about Bob the Builder, they already have Handy Manny who is (currently) more popular than Bob.

I know My 2 year old daughter would love to see theme park attractions and shows using the various Rankin-Bass holiday characters. Oh, and Schoolhouse Rock.:lol:

I love Nintendo characters/games/etc. but truthfully, I don't wanna see Mario and Luigi walking around WDW. The only place they could pull it off and I would be ok with would be DHS Streets of America or Backlot area..

If I'm not mistaken, Schoolhouse Rock is owned by ABC, so they's already have the rights.

Yeah, I'd love to see The Guys from Ducktales, Doug, Darkwing duck , Tale Spin, and the rest of the cartoon shows :animwink:
