New DAS System at Walt Disney World 2024

LL use and standby times are perfectly correlated.

DAS abuse most likely helps them sell more Genie+, too.

Likely they saw that DAS use was growing to such a level that they could no longer sell as much Genie+ as was being demanded on busy days and they were losing money.

At the same time, they saw guest satisfaction dropping for all those not on the DAS pass which will cost them money in the future.
But a stale diminishing over priced product wouldnt?

How are you so confident in something you have absolutely no evidence for (the affect of DAS on wait times) while simultaneously cautioning people not to jump to conclusions about DAS use / abuse?

The lack of confidence is the point. People in this thread are absolutely convinced that the abuse is rampant enough to justify all the "changes" coming to the system.

So what happens when the changes result in no noticable change to wait times and the "abuse" continues? People are setting themselves up for disappointment because they are putting a LOT on this supposed crackdown.

Addressing DAS issues doesn’t prevent them from addressing any of those other issues.

I don’t really get the argument about it being stale or diminishing. Disney has added a ton of stuff to Disney world just over the past 10 years, and supposedly has big plans for more in the coming 10 years.

It doesn’t really seem like a crackdown to me.

It’s just a change in how they are accommodating different disabilities.

DAS was major overkill as an accommodation for most disabilities.

They have replaced stuff…adding almost no new capacity

That’s why this is an issue in the first place. Capacity is the problem

They also have made a habit of overpromising, under delivering a standard approach.

Accommodations aren't about want though.

Someone with a mobility issue who wants to use a VQ rather than a wheelchair won't be able to do so.

Is splitting up groups prior to boarding an attraction unreasonable? That's the question.
The want applies because the context is a family vacation destination. This isn’t someone wanting to have a companion in an individual experience. It’s someone wanting to stay with their group for a group experience.

Well maybe Disney can land on something in between “one attendant” and 18? Maybe…. 4? with some exceptions given for families?
The problem with any Disney policy it’s it’s gonna be questioned loudly and frequently…

Why? Because they charge a lot and their marketing has always been to pump up expectations…which your best chance of meeting is by buying your way into them

Avatar land
Star Wars land
Toy Story land
Tron
Remy’s ratatouille adventure

All new things, not replacements. That added a ton of capacity. There was also the fantasy land expansion but that was 12 years ago now.

Cosmic rewind replaced something, but something that nobody ever attended. It also added capacity.

Dinoland was also poorly attended. It will be replaced by stuff people will actually want to go to and also add capacity.

Most of the other additions being planned are true additions.

Sometimes I feel guests have the long term memory of a fish. If it has not been added in the last year it's like it doesn't exist.

This has been broken down on many a thread so I don’t want to fight the same skirmishes

Added capacity in the last 20 years ends up at 5-10%
The average park attendance is up 20-30% in the same timespan

The only true “adds” have been tron, ratatouille and the avatar rides. Everything else involved a closure to build

Wonders of life was 3 things…

It’s just math, kids

The argument is not what’s “new”…the argument is where can they fit more people

Oh boy this thread keeps delivering. Now people are asking about building lounges that can house the queue of something like Rise, for every D-E ticket.

Good lord, and people complain about wasted space now.

And what happens to those massive lounges once the number of people wanting to ride those rides wains?
Wha? Not as a full queue replacement, but just for those deemed eligible as an alternative to standby.

Families split up in theme parks all the time. An older kid and one parent might do a coaster while the others do something else. My family did this all the time and managed.

In a perfect world with no cheaters, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I'm looking at it from the context of, what meets people's needs while discouraging the people who use DAS to be a paid front of the line service.

  • Independent of all of these questions, I also really don't understand why they are keeping the advanced DAS selections in place. This was absolutely the time to remove those.
DAS option for pre-booked attractions appears to end when these changes go into effect next month.

yeah but you can't just shove disabled guests out to the parking lot or put up a tent in next to the solar farm. From a practical standpoint, you'd need something larger than the dumbo waiting area right next to every D and E ticket ride in every park. The only way you are achieving that is by losing either revenue producing guest areas or sacrificing cast areas ( which in turn causes expense in having cast to travel further for breaks or storage or whatever you tore down to build). Starting from scratch with a new park you could probably do it, maybe they could pull it off in Epcot or DAK at some level. But I don't see way Disney would ever sacrifice that level of space in DHS or Magic Kingdom.
I wasn't talking about a DAS holding area. I was talking about replacing lines wherever possible for everyone with places like the Dumbo playground, or like the Jimmy Fallon area for Race through NY with Jimmy Fallon.
