New Crypt Queue in Haunted Mansion-What do you think?

Was out at the park last night, it had been raining all day. Park was deserted. I had lots of time to spend in the new area at HM.

I'm not going to wright a full review, I'm not in the mood to have people who don't live in the Orlando area coming down on me.

I will say this, I spent some time with the moving books, trying to figure out some ryhme to them. After some time, I noticed four managers standing at the end of the new area. I walked over and ask, "so what's the deal with the books, is it a game?" they all looked at each other, then one told me "you push one in, and more pop out." I asked "That's it?" Once again they looked at each other and laughed, one finally said "Yes, that's it."

My fix list
*Get rid of Musicians Tomb
*Keep Organ but mute it and remove Banshees and raven
*Sea Captain-turn off all effects-done:)
* Tear out Prudence Pock
*Put "Grandpa Marc" "Francis Xavier" and "Master Gracey" on hillside.
*Actual epitaphs for Gus Ezra and Phineas Pock

The whole discussion about the "optionality" of the queue as a justifying argument is academic, since it's clear that characters introduced there are going to be encountered again inside the HM. There's a portrait of "Cousin Maude" next to the HHG's, perhaps part of a sort of scavenger hunt inside for clues to the murder mystery thing.

Whatever. The point is, the queue is not going to be optional, since it begins the story continued inside.

A note of caution with regard to Imagineer quotes. They aren't gospel. Ken Anderson argued that Walt (and he) had already determined by 1958 that a walk-thru format would not work and the attraction would have to be a ride. Anderson had drawings that seemed to confirm this. But Rolly Crump has always maintained that the decision to go from a walk-thru to a ride format didn't take place while Walt was alive, and he has material to indicate that. So you could get direct quotes, in print, from HM Imagineers "proving" two opposite things. The idea that such quotes are a magic wand that turns "opinion" into "fact" is simply not defensible.
Woah, the bust characters are going to be part of the attraction? I'm curious (and slighly worried) as to how this will work.

There's now a portrait of "Cousin Maude" next to the hitchhiking ghosts. It may be part of a sort of scavenger hunt for clues to the murder mystery thing. There's other artwork/junk there with the painting, as if a CRYPT would ever be used to store such things. Attic part two, or something.

Imagine looking at that classic scene and thinking, "Wow, look at all that wasted space. We could use some of that available space around the hitchhikers to help us move this other story along."

Changed the bolded. Do this and I'm alright, mostly. I'd even be alright without fixing the first two if the busts were removed.

Magic Kingdom seems to be having Bi-polar disorder these days. One second something good happens (Tiki Room) the next really bad.(HM Queue)

The Haunted Mansion exterior is supposed to be creepy and not automatically give away that the building is haunted. That's the way Walt wanted it. That's why this is an Imagineering fail. On a lighter note, glad Tropical Serenade is coming back. :lookaroun

What's wrong with the HHG and Singing Bust graves?

EDIT: By the by, I'm talking about the Phineas Pock grave, not the mystery busts. I realized after looking at that how easily it could be misunderstood.

Why didn't everybody throw this stink when they put the ghost horse hearse out front? I mean, that literally is supposed to a be a ghost filling out the harness and bridle. You cannot actually see it, but it is certainly manifesting itself. It is the low-tech, non-interactive predecessor of the new queue.

The only one to me that see out-of place is the Poetess portion, the projection is too obvious. That and the lack of space for X & Marc are the only real problems I have with the queue.

Want to see a queue that is really screwy? Go to DL's POTC.

Do you think maybe a few of those effects could be moved to the exit of the attraction? They'd work a lot better there.

Ok...seriously people, you expect something deep about a typical "haunted bookshelf" setup? Its a classic staple of any haunted house/movie, books move in and out and fly around. This is all the bookshelf was ever intended to emulate. I'm not sure why you found their answer that its simply a bookshelf whose books move on their own so odd.

I can understand that some of the effects might be "annoying" if played with too much, I can understand the concern about the longevity of the tombs. However, I cannot understand why so many people are taking this so seriously. The old line was a walk under some tarps with a howling wolf in the background. Sure, there was some graves and most are still there. I cannot understand why so many people would take this so seriously.

I can't believe people are still complaining about this. It seems like the majority is okay with this. It's just the handful that keep restating their points over and over. And over. It's quite funny and doing no good. :ROFLOL:

Yeah, I mean its so crazy that some people care and are upset when Imagineering misses the point and installs something that doesn't exactly fit due to short-sitedness.

Fair question, and easily answered. Because it happened in 1995 at DL, and shortly after (not sure of the year) at WDW. There was no HM fan community in 1995, because there was (practically) no Internet. If they put in the ghost harness thing today, there would be a stink because, yes, it is out of place. At least you could (and can) ignore it. This queue thing is not so easily ignored, and besides, we now know it "leaks" into the interior, so it's not really optional after all.

Yes, when I walked up to the ride and saw this sign I had no idea the mansion was supposed to be haunted before I got into the building itself!

Then they added Leota and almost everyone I've heard loves her...a tombstone that opens its eyes and looks around...surely that doesn't give away that the building is haunted.

Signs are necessary evils. You have to have a sign somewhere telling people what the thing is, and that's it right there. It is no more a part of the imaginative experience than the green EXIT signs and safety bars. You screen them out and forget them. They always try to make these signs blend in as much as possible stylistically, so they don't stick out so much. They did a particularly nice job of this with the HM plaque, but it's still just a sign.

The Leota stone is designed to be barely noticed. Out of the corner of your eye "Wait, did that thing just move? Or did I imagine it?" That kind of thing. Sometimes that's exactly how it functions; other times, not quite so well. It's not supposed to be a blatant advertisement: "Hey, there are GHOSTS in here!"

My point is if Walt and friends didn't want people to know it was a haunted mansion before riding it...they wouldn't have called it the haunted mansion. It just seems like everybody here always knows "what Walt would have done". Strangely, it almost always seems to be the opposite of what is actually done.

I'm a classic ride junkie sure...but I don't mind changes provided that they don't take away from the original experience(tiki room). The changes to HM and Pirates are perfect examples of changes I have no problem with. Even SSE isn't too bad, sure the end is a little cheesy with the vision of the future, but I still don't think it made the ride any worse from the previous version...a waste...sure.
