I didn't mind the birthday cake. Eep! At least it made sense in terms of composition and color palate. And it left the back of the castle free for 'classic' photos. This one is a dissonant mess with the kind of trimmings someone with new money would spring upon themselves.

And wait until we hit 2,000 pages. I think a topic like this may stick around for a while. Maybe not that long, but who-CO knows-VID?
We can hit up some more pages if we link the ' no need to cover tattoo' point of view with the ' no need to cover the taco/barges' point. Disney just doesnt want to cover anymore? Discussion guaranteed. I do not want to derail the topic too much though. ;-)

I'm totally here for the one-shot Disney burlesque show of 2021 choices thread

Will the higher ups in the company be coming to work with tattoos in the future..
You could be amazed what might have been hidden beneath all those suits all along.

Chapek with a full back tribal tattoo of Mickey? D'amaro letting his favorite princes dance by bouncing his pecs?
Iger with some inspirational ' let it go' on a place where the sun doesn't shine.

We'll never know ...

That's...a lot to think about....

I think it is funny that all this 'progress', and the 'get with the times' talk, is coming from a forum that constantly discusses how much better the parks were in the past.
I've read about 1 in 50 posts applauding what you call 'progress' and 'get with the times' talk. Obviously, it's worth discussing.

All cast in the same recognisable polo would work for me.
That’s fine. Many are fine with exposed steel coasters, warehouse boxes visible from on stage, and Marriott hotel towers.

Nothing wrong with any of that, but Disney used to hold themselves to a much higher standard known as the “Disney Difference”.

I do wonder what is magical about Disney vs. a regional park for you? Or are they all the same to you? An amusement park is an amusement park?

One more example of tattoos (from another site) -

As expected, the "no larger than the size of your hand" rule is being completely ignored and/or managed very poorly. :(

In his defense, you could make a valid argument that each letter is a separate tat and thus he's got at least five different tats there that are all smaller than the size of his hand.

The rules on visible tats are very vague and a mile wide and subject to broad interpretation. For whatever reason, Disney didn't want to put the same amount of thought into the tattoo rules as they do the sunglasses rules.

This is nothing but the sudden and dramatic lowering of standards. It's not a change for the better. For anyone, employees or customers.

One place the cast members will feel right at home sporting their tattoos or new tattoos is at the NBA Experience at Disney Springs since a number of NBA players have tattoos from head to toe.

There a lot of different things when I google for ' Disney Difference'. Maybe that's the rail Disney Difference? Everyone expects/maintains a different standard?

For me: disney parks bring (their) stories to life. Disney is hardly interesting if you like coasters or thrill seekers, but the strong connection of everything is nice to experience. I prefer watching a small girl being happy with her Else merchandise than checking if the main street guy looks like someone who fits in a old main street setting. I often find myself just wandering in the park and just be happy because everyone else is having a good time :)

There's a power to believe in things. We can imagine. Kids have such a strong power and imagination and they wont notice even big flaws (the entire santa thing). Somehow we lose that we end up feeling annyoing because someone had a tattoo ...

I dont need a 100% perfect setting to experience a story. I won't lose ' the feel' because some minor things are off. I don't even notice it. I like Mickey as a symbol. When I hug him, I'm quite aware I'm hugging a man in a suit (or a woman, who cares?). The setting it good enough to give me joy.

So the same question for you: what's magical for how? how high must the standard be? what flaws can't be overlooked? And at what cost?

Do have thousand of employees have to hide their tattoo's for the few seconds you might spot one?

I'm not terribly in favor of this change, but I understand why they felt they needed to do it. Our culture has changed and the pool of potential CMs available for work reflect a different appearance than what I grew up with. So, in order for Disney to be able to hire suitable individuals, they had to make this change.

Exactly. These new non-standards (that Disney can't even manage properly on day one) just greatly widened the available labor pool.

A larger labor pool depresses current and future wage growth, and also helps depress the benefits that Disney must offer to maintain that labor pool.

Lowering standards only widens the pool of available labor, which lowers wages. Meanwhile, some Disney employees are celebrating this change and acting like showing off their giant tats during their Fantasyland shifts just improved their standard of living and proves their company loves them. It does the exact opposite where it really counts; their bank account.
